HOW TO HOST A SIP AND SEE

Have you ever heard of a Sip and See?

No?  Neither had I… until recently that is.

If you had asked me that question a week ago, I would have said I had no idea what a Sip and See was. But I have since learned that a Sip and See is a tradition with Southern roots. And since my daughter-in-law, Louisa, is a lovely southern belle, she taught me all about it. Apparently, a Sip and See is a way for a family to show off their newborn baby to friends and family in a casual, low key setting.  A Sip and See allows parents to streamline the show-and-tell and get it all over with in one-fell-swoop.  The new parents provide some liquid refreshments, the (“Sip”), and place the baby and nursery on display, the (“See”), during an open house.

Toward that end, my son and daughter-in-law hosted a little Sip and See to show off my new Grandson, Wills.  So, since many of us are learning something new here, I thought I’d go ahead and show you how to host a Sip and See.  It is supposed to be as easy and stress free as possible.  Guests are invited over for a specified short period of a time.  They pop in, Sip a little something, See the baby and everyone is happy.  This way, the home of the new parents does not become a revolving door of anxious visitors wishing to meet the new addition.

Somehow, my new mommy daughter-in-law, Louisa, managed to flawlessly pull off her recent Sip and See.  She made a cute banner to decorate the foyer.  The letters on the banner were made using a free alphabet printable from Martha Stewart. You can download the free clipart here.  The colorful paper was from the Paper Source.

Another “Welcome” banner adorned the mantel.

Guests were invited to visit Wills’s travel-themed nursery.  Thankfully, even though Wills decided to be born 24 days early, the nursery was finished prior to his arrival.

Keeping it as stress free as possible, they offered their guests a few easy-to-prepare snacks.

A little bubbly was served to satisfy the “Sip” requirement.

And the Baby Boy themed cupcakes came from a local bakery.

The house was filled with many lovely flower arrangements sent by baby well-wishers.  That made decorating easy.

So, there you have it:  A Sip and See.  Who knew?

And, since we are on the subject of new babies, I thought I’d share this very cute little video.  It’s one of those timeline videos of a woman’s pregnancy, but what makes this video special is the serenade from her cute husband. Watch it! You’ll be glad you did.
