Hi there! Well, June is wedding season, and if you’re like me, you may have been invited to several upcoming wedding celebrations.

I know how challenging shopping for a wedding gift can often be. In fact, we attended a wedding recently and by the time I went online to order from the bridal registry, everything I liked had been purchased. As a result I had to get creative and look for alternate gift ideas. So today I thought I’d share with you how to find the perfect unique wedding gift.

A Personalized Present

I am a big fan of personalizing items for my family and friends. It means you’ve taken the extra time to create something unique that they definitely won’t be getting from anyone else. Companies like Personal Creations have lots of wedding gift ideas that utilize personalization to make for a unique present, made especially for the wedding couple. You can use photos from their social media pages to make a photo canvas, have some home décor customized with their names or initials, or use your imagination to make a special gift that’s just right for them.

The Gift of a Clean House

Brad and I travel a lot and before we venture off I go a bit crazy cleaning the house. There is nothing worst then returning home from vacation to a messy house with expired food in the fridge. I want to arrive home to a perfect place, with crisp, clean sheets on the bed, as I’ll likely be spending a lot of time there recovering from jet lag.

So, in my way of thinking, why not give the gift of a clean house to a bride & groom? If the couple heads off for their honeymoon right after the wedding it’s likely their home has been left in disarray with the hustle and bustle that goes into getting ready for this milestone event. So instead of the bride & groom coming home to a less than perfect abode, you can make sure their place is spick and span and ready for them to embark on their new life together by hiring a cleaning service to get in and scrub up the place while they’re gone. Or, if you can’t arrange for the cleaning to be done while they honeymoon, a gift certificate for cleaning when it’s convenient for the couple is sure to be appreciated.

For the Book Loving Bride & Groom

As you know if you follow along here regularly, I belong to a Book Club.

But if truth, be told I’m often too busy to read as much as I’d like. However, there is nothing better than a captivating book to take along on my travels. For me it often makes long flights seem shorter if I’m riveted to a good read.

And since a wedding couple is likely making travel part of their honeymoon, I’ve found a great gift that will surely make honeymoon travel more enjoyable. And it’s a gift so unique it would never be expected. It’s a subscription service called TheBookDrop.com, whose mission it is to spread the love of reading by exposing people to really amazing books. They handpick book titles designed to fit a person’s personality and reading preferences, and once a month send off a box of books along with other fun stuff to the recipient.  Helping a happy wedding couple discover fantastic reads by giving them marvelous books, books they probably would never have discovered otherwise seems about as unique as wedding gifts get, don’t you think?  You might even choose a His & Hers gift set. Perhaps a historical fiction subscription for Her, and thriller novels for Him? A double-duty present that will be equally enjoyed by both the bride & groom. And they can trade each other for new titles once they finish their own box of books; this makes for a gift that truly keeps on giving.

A “Netflix and Chill” Date Box

With a college age son I’ve recently learned a “tongue-in-cheek” phrase that has become a moniker for date nights among young people: “Netflix and Chill”.  Have you heard it? Well, why not capitalize on the hilarity of the popular phrase by creating a “Netflix and Chill” themed wedding gift basket. After throwing what was likely a very costly wedding, help the happy couple keep the romance alive by giving them a date night that doesn’t involve getting dressed up and spending a lot of money.

Instead they can enjoy a romantic evening at home with a basket or decorated hat box you’ve filled with a Netflix subscription, a boxed set of their favorite television shows or movies and some gourmet snacks. Throw in a good bottle of wine and a cozy blanket and they’ve got date night in a box, no assembly required. And because I’m a sucker for a good pun, make sure you throw in a gift certificate for a local ice cream spot, as you don’t want to leave out the “chill” portion of the date.

Great ideas. Something personal is always my first choice. My daughter got married a month ago and while she got all the pots and pans and dishes she wanted this was her absolute favorite gift.

Thank you for all these GREAT ideas! I have three wedding gifts to buy this next month! I will defenitley be using one of your excellent suggestions! Great pics too. Thank you Celia!

  • You are very welcome! Boy, 3 gifts to buy! I think you are like me with our kids friends all getting married. And yes, thanks for noticing the photos. Some of them are from Rachel Havel Photography. She is really talented!

  • Yes, I think a personalized gift goes a long way in showing one cares to go the extra mile. As you say, pots & pans are practical but they will never be cherished like something more personal.

  • FABULOUS ideas! I like that they are each unique in their own right and very imaginative, which I feel is somewhat lacking when it comes to gift giving these days. It seems that everyone opts to just go with a gift card or get something off a wish list. I will admit…I’m guilty of it myself. It’s easy, and at least you know they will like it. Your suggested ideas are so much more memorable and special. I did a picnic basket for a bride and groom once. They loved it and it was so much fun to assemble! I am definitely going to borrow a few of your ideas! Thanks!

  • Thanks so much for your kind comments! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your idea of a picnic basket gift! Brilliant!! And I agree, it is fun to put together special gift baskets. Helps gift givers stand out from the crowd.

  • These are some great ideas and I’ve got to come up with gift for an early July wedding. I too love to come home to a clean house. I always clean before we leave, it makes me happy!

  • Yes, travel is wonderful but it’s usually so nice to get home-sweet-home after a long trip. And to walk in the door and find everything pristine is the only way to go. It does make for a happy return.
