Looking Back on Sunday

Hey there, did you catch my delicious blog post this week for my go-to summer dessert, Fresh Fruit Pavlova?

Some Grandson Cuteness On Sunday

Today is my Chicago-dwelling son’s birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAYLOR! To help him celebrate my DC-dwelling son, and his son, went to Chicago for the weekend. Taylor took them on a tour of his school, the University of Chicago Law School, where students can literally walk on water. This time a little future student got to do just that. Who knows, maybe he’ll be his uncle’s legacy one day? He’s off to a good start anyway.

An Update On The House On Cottage Grove

Hope you had a great week. Mine has been spent working away at my sewing machine, making all the window treatments, decorative pillows and bedding for The House On Cottage Grove. I’ve turned my dining room into a cutting room.

And my foyer is an upholstery workshop.

Sewing Curtains

We are nearly finished with the interior of The House On Cottage Grove and I’ll be sharing photos soon of the Bonus/Game Room, the Basement Bathroom, etc. But this week we moved to the exterior where my carpenter built new front steps, resurfaced the deck, and built new railings.

My painter also powerwashed the house and is prepping for paint. After 8 months of renovation I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Happy National Root Beer Day

Today is National Root Beer Day. Who knew? If you’re in the DC area tomorrow, 8/7, join my son’s firm, FamousDC, at Goodies on Capitol Hill for a scoop of Vanilla Bean Frozen Custard in an ice cold mug of frothy caramel root beer. YUM

Visiting Paris On Sunday

I love Paris and just to keep me in the Parisian spirit, I enjoy reading a blog called Messy Nessy Chic. Nessy (Vanessa) is a London girl now living in gay ol’ Paris. She tells people how to do Paris like a local, and now she is doing it in book form with the release of “Don’t Be A Tourist In Paris” . Nessy shows you how to walk Paris’ streets like a local: find the most eccentric architecture, get cozy in hidden cafes, party in the catacombs, tour the city with a broken heart, and wander like a true bohemian. I’m ordering it stat, so next time I’m in Paris I too can experience it like a local. Get your copy by clicking here.

A Little Music On Sunday

I’m very happy that American Idol is coming back to television. It was a show that my family actually sat down and watched together, including my husband who generally only watches golf & HGTV. In fact, one of his favorite losers on the show was Pia Toscano. Postmodern Jukebox, the musicians who put an old fashioned vibe on today’s greatest hits, recently brought Pia Toscano to the microphone along with another Idol alum, Stefano Langone, to put their spin on one of my favorite tunes, “The Prayer.”  Have a listen…

So there you have it: SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 42

  • It looks like you’ve been very productive with the Cottage. You put me to shame. Lol!
I love Vanessa’s site and have been subscribed to it for a while. Her off-beat posts are always so intriguing. Where she digs up some of that stuff is beyond me! I must have missed her book announcement so thanks for sharing. I might have to pick up a copy. I’m planning a trip to Paris next year and it might come in handy.

  • Yes, Messy Nessy is one interesting woman who sure finds things of interest to share. Have fun planning your Paris trip!
