This week my entire family is here in beautiful Lake Arrowhead to help my son Taylor celebrate his 25th birthday. When asked what he wanted me to prepare for his birthday dinner he requested that I serve my famous fish tacos. To accompany our latin style dinner I decided to also brew a refreshing iced tea Sangria style.
I love iced tea and as I’ve mentioned in this prior post, Bigelow is my preferred brand. So I was delighted when Bigelow asked me to team up with them and show you how simple it is to make delicious iced tea using Bigelow tea products from Walmart. We just happen to have a new Walmart Neighborhood Market in nearby Loma Linda that I had been wanting to check out. So off I went to explore the world of Bigelow Tea at Walmart.
My resident peach tree is overflowing with a beautiful bounty of fruit this summer and I’ve been looking for ways to use this delicious fruit in creative ways. I also have a healthy crop of mint in my herb garden.
So, I decided to purchase Bigalow’s Perfect Peach and Mint Medley Herbal Teas. What better way to create a refreshing Iced Tea Sangria style than to pair these delicious teas with my garden harvest of peaches and mint?
I’ve also been extra conscious of making healthy food and drink choices of late and I’ve been trying to find ways to add antioxidant rich foods to my diet. Antioxidants help prevent or stop cell damage caused by oxidants. Get it? Anti-oxidants. Oxidants are free radicals that you find in the environment, but they’re also produced naturally in your body. Antioxidants occur naturally in tea and are especially rich in green tea. Drinking green tea should be part of a healthy diet and so I wanted to explore using it in combination with Bigelow’s Peach & Mint Tea for the added antioxidant component it would give to the tea. So, my iced tea Sangria style will feature these three Bigelow teas:
Green Tea Classic
Perfect Peach Herbal Tea
Mint Medley Herbal Tea
During the summer I live on iced tea and every single day I prepare a fresh pitcher using my iced tea brewing machine. It really makes the process quick and easy. I used this machine to make my iced tea Sangria style, but you can make yours the old fashioned way if you don’t possess a brewing system like mine. Let me show you what to do…
- Start with 4 cups of fresh cold water. Bring the water to a rolling boil.
- Place 3 tea bags of Perfect Peach, 2 tea bags of Green Tea & 1 tea bag of Mint Medley into the boiling water, turn off the heat and cover the pot.
- Allow the tea to steep for a full 20 minutes.
- While the tea is steeping clean and then cut 4 large peaches, skin on, into thin slices. You should end up with about 5 cups of sliced fresh peaches.
- Once the tea has completed the steeping process remove the tea bags.
- Don’t squeeze the bags, as this releases bitter tannins into the tea, not a good thing.
- Add 8 cups of ice cubes to a heatproof container and pour the tea over the ice.
- Now squeeze the juice of 2 fresh lemons into the tea.
- Then add 1/3 cup of stevia sweetener and mix to combine. I like stevia because it’s considered healthy, it tastes natural and best of all, it’s calorie free. I really don’t like to drink my calories! You can substitute your preferred sweetener of choice, to taste.
- Finally, fill a large, clear glass container or pitcher halfway full of ice.
- Mix the sliced peaches into the ice.
- Pour the iced tea over the ice.
- Garnish with fresh mint and voila! You’ve got yourself a refreshing iced tea Sangria style!
Now go serve it to your family who will think you are a major rock star for doing so!
ENJOY!
