EXPLORING BIG BEAR CALIFORNIA
Hi There!
If you’ve been following along, you already know my husband and I bought this little fixer-upper cottage in nearby Big Bear Lake, California.
After 6 long months of renovation, the cottage now looks like this in the summer……
And, like this in winter.
Our cottage is located about 25 beautiful miles away from Lake Arrowhead, where we live. I put a ton of mileage on my car driving to Big Bear almost daily over the course of the renovation. My husband watches a lot of HGTV, and, with the magic of television, he sees home renovations take place in the blink of an eye He couldn’t quite understand why our home was taking so long, or why the milage kept creeping up on my odometer. But hey, we’re on “mountain time” up here, and the drive to Big Bear is simply spectacular!
As you can see, The Rim of the World Highway is very picturesque.
This is some of the lovely scenery I enjoy along the way.
On a clear day you can see forever.
Big Bear is a four season resort community nestled in the Southern California Mountains of San Bernardino at an altitude of 7000 feet.
It boasts a beautiful freshwater lake which, unlike Lake Arrowhead, is public and can be enjoyed by all. Bring along or rent a boat, jet ski or kayak , or take a ride on the Pirate Ship in spring or summer.
Big Bear California also enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year……
……so that you may enjoy not one, but two ski resorts on a lovely sunny day like this while taking in gorgeous lake views.
And, if you rent our now newly renovated cottage, you can almost walk to either ski resort! OK, I might be exaggerating a tad, but to tell the truth, both Bear Resort and Snow Summit Ski Resort are exactly 1 mile from the cottage.
Or, if you visit during the summer months there are miles of beautiful hiking trails to enjoy. During the summer months, the ski resort is open for mountain biking, or you can simply ride the chairlift to the top ,where they serve a delicious BBQ lunch. There is a lovely village in town with good restaurants and cute shops. The golf course and zoo are located less than a mile from our cottage. All of these amenities and much more make Big Bear the ideal getaway for visitors from all over Southern California and beyond who want to explore nature and have a unique mountain experience. So, have I sold you on Big Bear yet?
Stay tuned and I will share lots more about the cottage renovation.
However, in the meantime, if you’d like to plan a trip to beautiful Big Bear Lake you can find information about renting our cottage here.
