TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE THE FALSE ALARM
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE THE FALSE ALARM
Last February when I was developing this Blog, my beautiful Granddaughter was born.
Her parents, my oldest son Nathan and daughter-in-law Louisa, live in Washington, DC. Despite the distance I was determined to be there for her arrival. Just like the mother-to-be, my bags were packed several weeks in advance so that the moment I got the call I could scurry to the airport, which in my case is 2 hours away. The anticipation of the birth of our first Grandchild was great and shared by all. So it happened that on a cold, snowy, winters night my son called to say that the moment may be near. But, as is often the case, it turned out to be a false alarm and served as a practice run for the actual event when she arrived right on schedule two weeks later. Miraculously, I made it to the hospital with a full 15 minutes to spare. It was a very happy day!
What follows is a pictorial and a silly little poem I wrote to commemorate my practice run to the airport:
Twas the night before the false alarm and all thru the yard,
Not a creature was stirring because of the snowfall.
The driveway was shoveled by Brad with great care,
In hopes that Baby would soon be there.
The Becker’s then nestled all snug in the house,
While visions of a warm dinner danced in their heads.
After dinner they settled in bed as they might,
And waited in anticipation, would this be the night?
When there on the nightstand arose a great clatter,
They sprung from the bed to hear what was the matter,
When what to their wondering ears would they hear?
Nathan’s voice telling them the time may be near.
With Brad as her driver, so lively and quick,
Celia knew in a moment she must go lickety-split,
So out to the driveway she went bundled up,
With a car full of suitcases she was ready to book.
More rapid than eagles they sped down the road,
Now dash away, dash away, dash away all.
On Bradley, on Celia, on Virgin America,
The baby might be coming, oh what a panic!
And then in a twinkling it wasn’t to be,
We’ll do this another day, when she’s ready for me.
So there you have it: TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE THE FALSE ALARM
Have you had a baby false alarm? My sweet daughter-in-law would love to know she is not alone in that department!
