Recently, an executive from Sunset Magazine rented my Big Bear Lake cottage, The Bird’s Nest.
She found the cottage through my listing on VRBO.com. I happen to love Sunset Magazine and have been a subscriber all of my adult life. So, I was really excited that of all the vacation rentals available in Big Bear, she selected my cottage! To top it off, she left a goodie bag! I couldn’t believe that not only did she pay me to stay in The Bird’s Nest, but she also left me a gift!
Inside the gift bag there was a beautiful book, “The New Sunset Western Garden Book”. Plus she left 3 copies of the magazine.
One of the pages had been tabbed, drawing my attention to a Sunset Magazine contest called “Small Space, Big Dreams”.
A note said she thought I’d like to enter the contest, adding that she felt the editors of the magazine would appreciate seeing The Bird’s Nest. In the spring, Sunset magazine will be launching a column that will celebrate tiny houses and the people who live in them. Sunset was inviting readers to show them how they “Fit a lot of living into a small space.”
My small-but-sweet little 504 square foot cottage certainly fit the criteria, so I entered the contest in the category of “Whole House”. Now my Big Bear Lake cottage is featured on Sunset.com! Between now and February 15th, Sunset editors will judge the entries and select up to 10 finalists in each category. In the meantime, all of the entries can be viewed on Sunset.com. I invite you to visit my entry for The Bird’s Nest on Sunset.com. It’s on Page 7. You’ll see my name and photo of the cottage’s bathroom (not my first choice photo). Somehow my headline also got left off. Oh well, I’m unique!
As you can see, there are 5 stars below the photo. When you visit the site you can hover your mouse over the stars and click your star rating for the entry. On March 1st Sunset Magazine will announce the finalists, so until then, I will be crossing my fingers and toes and saying a lot of prayers. Then, from March 1st to March 31st, readers will be invited to vote for their favorites. So, stay tuned and I’ll keep you posted if The Bird’s Nest is selected as a finalist. In the meantime, here are a few additional photos of the cottage you won’t see on Sunset.com.
