A LOVE LETTER TO MY GRANDDAUGHTER ON HER 1ST BIRTHDAY
A LOVE LETTER TO MY GRANDDAUGHTER ON HER 1ST BIRTHDAY
Dear Sweetie Pie,
It seems like only yesterday that you were waving hello to me from the womb.
And wasn’t it just yesterday that your mother shared you with your curious family, everyone anxious to feel you kicking hellos to the outside world?
But, suddenly, 9 months passed and you were ready to emerge, and I was ready to meet you. The 3,000 miles that separated us was little barrier to a determined Grandmother. I arrived at the hospital 15 minutes before you did! As I held you in my arms for the very first time you melted my heart, and I knew in that instant that distance wouldn’t keep us apart for long.
There you were, the prettiest baby I had ever seen.
It seems like yesterday that I got to dress you in the outfit……
that you would wear home from the hospital. We spent the first week of your life together, a bonding experience that would keep me coming back for more!
But it was you who came to visit me next. Two months after your birth, you made your first trip to California. That was a very momentous occasion, as you got to meet your Great Grandfather for the first time.
But, being the east coast girl that you are, your visit was short lived. In what seemed like the blink of an eye, you returned home. However, wild horses wouldn’t keep me away! I was right back on a plane two months later , anxious to see your serious little 4-month-old face.
By the following month, when at age 5 months you were feeling under the weather, I was in California, wishing I could have been there to help make it all better.
At age 6 months, you were ready to sail the high seas in your sailor outfit. I would have sailed the 7 seas to see you! But, sadly, I’d have to wait until you were 7 months old for our next reunion .
By then 3 full months had passed since I’d held your chubby little hand and kissed your pretty little face. By the time I arrived for my next visit, it seemed like you were ready for your first driver’s license! If only after I left, your pink motor car would motor you all the way back to me!
Thankfully, only one month had passed before you made your second trip west to Lake Arrowhead. Donning a pink pacifier and sunglasses, you were ready for your Hollywood closeup. California here I come!
By then, you were sticking out your tongue to all those who thought you couldn’t make the journey on foot.
But, by your 10th month, you had a new mode of transportation, a red Radio Flyer that Santa had brought for your first Christmas. I cherish the memories of that first Christmas with you.
Now, here we are in mid February, days away from your first birthday party. Your presents are wrapped and my bags are packed. See you soon my dear, sweet baby doll.
All my love, GCC
Grandma CeCe
