THE INN AT PALMETTO BLUFF
Hi there!
Today I thought I’d continue to share with you the adventures of my Southern road trip. The first stop on our journey was The Inn At Little Washington, where we visited the charming village, ate the best meal of our lives and, generally, had a magnificent time. So, how do you top that? Well, you don’t really. What we did do was something else wonderful but different. We continued south to The Inn At Palmetto Bluff, a Montage Resort located in Bluffton, South Carolina. Like The Inn At Little Washington, this place also has more awards than you’d care to read, but the two shouldn’t be compared, as they each exude their own unique specialness. And they were both on my Bucket List of places to visit.
What we desired from The Inn At Palmetto Bluff was to experience the quintessential Lowcountry lifestyle. Where trees are dripping with Spanish moss…
where complimentary bikes…
and golf carts are the main mode of transportation…
where alligators populate the lagoons…
and where southern style mansions dot the landscape.
We also looked forward to tasting the Lowcountry cuisine, which for breakfast always included cheesy grits and biscuits…
refreshing cocktails were served in the shade of the covered porch…
dinner involved some type of local seafood…
and dessert was S’mores, with marshmallows roasted in the fire pits in front of the inn.
The Lowcountry hospitality is also unequaled. Everyone at The Inn At Palmetto Bluff went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and welcome. The porters quickly unloaded our car, transferred our luggage into a golf cart, and whisked us off to the cottage that would be our home for the next 3 days.
There we found the 2 bikes that would be ours for the duration of our stay, along with the private golf cart assigned to our cottage. Our rental car was parked by the valet and we would not see it again for the rest of our stay.
That’s because, when we weren’t traveling by golf cart or bike, we checked out a Mercedes from the Inn’s fleet of complimentary vehicles. Yes, I kid you not, they are complementary, for use in 4 hour increments, including the gas!
So now let me show you our cottage, #8. Stepping inside the front door one enters into a small vestibule with a wet bar, a small fridge loaded with complimentary water and iced tea, and a Keurig coffee making station.
The vestibule opens into an expansive, high-ceilinged bedroom.
Two comfortable chairs flanking a small table were at the foot of the king size bed. Here, a complimentary bottle of wine awaited us, along with a bag of spiced pecan. After our long road trip, it was a welcome treat.
Adjacent to the sitting area was a fireplace and a writing desk, complete with an iPad for use during our stay.
I loved the beautiful oil painting above the fireplace.
The left side of the fireplace held a large flat screen TV that got very little use during our stay.
On one side of the bed was a cozy window seat.
And, on the other side was a wall of French doors…
that opened onto a large, private, screened porch…
that overlooked the lovely lagoon, just steps away.
We enjoyed watching the flocks of Osprey that perched on the trees…
as well as the resident alligators that patrolled the lagoon. We were told that there was a family of 7 living in this particular pond, and that they would be relocated once they grew to be over 7 feet long. Apparently they are not a threat to humans until they reach 7 feet. Who knew? In any case, we kept our distance…
and we obeyed the signs, which at first I actually thought were a joke. That was until this California girl realized it was no joke. Alligators also call these parts home.
Now, lets step back inside the cottage because I still have more to show you. Just off the bedroom there was a large dressing room complete with a dressing table.
The opposite wall housed two closets and a built in bureau.
The dressing room opened into a very spacious bathroom…
with a lovely soaking tub…
and a double vanity.
There was also a huge separate steam shower…
complete with a rain shower head and bench seat. We did not take advantage of the steam, as there was plenty of steam everywhere we went. This time of year is hot and humid in the south, so no additional steam was needed.
Honestly, what more could one desire from a hotel room? And, for that matter, what more could one desire from a hotel in general? The grounds were stunningly beautiful, and in my next post I’ll show you all around them…
and I’ll also take you on a tour of the Southern Living Magazine Idea House.
Please stay tuned! There’s lots more Southern living to do.
So there you have it: The Inn At Palmetto Bluff!
