THE LOVELY LOWCOUNTRY HOMES OF PALMETTO BLUFF
Greetings.
“IT IS PLEASANT TO HAVE BEEN TO A PLACE THE WAY THE RIVER WENT.”
Henry David Thoreau penned those words, which perfectly express the pleasant feeling I still retain after having visited a place in South Carolina that was carved over the centuries by the winding May River.
It’s a place where residents have built homes shaded by the Live Oaks and Palmetto Trees…
where it feels like you are light years removed from city living, yet Savannah and Charleston are less than an hour away.
And the architecture is reminiscent of that found in the great Southern coastal towns of Charleston and Savannah, yet it is decidedly more relaxed and casual.
The lovely Lowcountry homes of Palmetto Bluff have welcoming front porches…
and glowing gas lamps on every corner.
It’s a place where rocking chairs on porches promote relaxation and welcome visitors…
and the livin’ is easy.
It’s a place where hammocks lie waiting in the thickets of the tidal marshes…
along a mile of riverfront that is forever protected from development.
And picnic tables are provided next to picturesque ponds.
But one can also dine on delicacies like May River Oysters in the local cafe…
or be delivered from such decadences in the waterfront chapel.
Here folks get around by boat…
or by bicycle…
or even by broodmare.
But this time of year residents lounge on their large porches…
that provide refuge from the summer heat…
or they lounge by the luxurious pools…
that dot the neighborhoods.
Kids cool off here…
while adults enjoy cooling cocktails here. Mint Julep anyone?
The residences of Palmetto Bluff have large lots…
with room for guest and carriage houses.
It’s good to have friends with houses in Palmetto Bluff.
Dozens of ponds dot the landscape…
providing beautiful waterfront settings for the lovely Lowcountry homes.
Parks and green spaces abound…
lakes are stocked for fishing…
while over 120 acres of maritime forest is protected.
Walking trails also abound in Palmetto Bluff’s 22,000 acres……
that lead to old graveyards…
and tree houses…
waiting to be climbed.
Palmetto Bluff is a beautiful place, full of Southern charm. I look forward to my next visit and recommend it highly to you.
