MY FAVORITE SPOT IN NORTH CAROLINA
Greetings!
Yesterday I found myself in 2 places at once; blogging away here on the west coast while I was also virtually blogging 3,000 miles away on the east coast. That was because I was honored to be a guest blogger over on a great blog called 702 Park Project.
Since 702 Park Project comes to us from North Carolina, I decided to write the guest blog post about my favorite spot in North Carolina. It’s a very special place called River Dunes.
After many years of wallowing on my Bucket List, Brad and I finally visited River Dunes last August. With so much to share about this wonderful place, I wasn’t able to squeeze it all into yesterday’s post over on 702 Park Project. So today I’m bringing you part 2 of our visit to my favorite spot in North Carolina. It began at the Harbor Club, where we took a tour of the beautiful clubhouse and grounds. You can see that over on 702 Park Project by clicking here.
I want to show you the community of River Dunes that is dotted with charming homes in an absolutely idyllic setting. But first lets take a tour of the cute little cottage Brad and I rented for our 3 day visit. It’s located in a little grouping of 1, 2 & 3 bedroom harborside guest cottages.
This was our 1 bedroom cottage.
Come on in and I’ll show you around. The bedroom is just inside the front door, where the bed is flanked by a brick fireplace.
I thought it was brilliantly decorated in a relaxed but refined way. Nautical touches like the 3 mirrors above the headboard are reminiscent of portholes on a ship. And the starfish and carved wooden bird on the mantel are elements indigenous to the harborside setting.
I loved the iron bedside table lamp, which I may just have to use as inspiration for my own lamp one day.
And check out the plank flooring and reclaimed wood ceiling. It was obvious that the very talented interior designer used the colors found in the reclaimed wood as her color palette for the room. And did you notice how the draperies mimic the stripes and colors found on the paneled ceiling?
Just beyond the bedroom was a small hallway that lead to the charming morning kitchen to the left.
Not designed for cooking, it contained simply the basics for preparing coffee and continental breakfast or a light snack. I loved the zinc countertops and might just do that in my next cottage renovation.
On the opposite side of the tiny kitchen was a breakfast nook with a small table and French Bistro chairs. Just off the kitchen was a door leading to a screened-in porch that was shared with the neighboring cottage. Complete with a picnic table and rocking chairs, I wish I had had time to enjoy it.
The comfortable bathroom sported a clawfoot tub that was flanked by his and hers sinks. I just loved the whimsical light fixtures above the sinks! On the opposite wall there was a generously sized steam shower and a water closet.
Well, that does it for the lovely little River Dunes Guest Cottage tour. Please stay tuned and in my next post I’ll show you all around the charming village of River Dunes and introduce you to some of the magnificent homes that grace the community. There are 600 homesites in River Dunes and Brad and I are giving serious thought to buying one. Our goal is to one day have a second home on the east coast so we can be closer to our grown children and grandchildren who have all moved there.
So there you have it: MY FAVORITE SPOT IN NORTH CAROLINA
