OJAI ARTISTS STUDIO TOUR
Hi there!
This weekend several of my friends attended an annual event in beautiful Ojai, California called the Ojai Artists Studio Tour.
Brad and I decided not to attend this year because next Saturday our home will be featured in the Lake Arrowhead Kitchen Tour, and our to-do lists were long in preparation for next weekend. By the way, have you purchased your ticket yet? I’m looking forward to seeing you!
Even though we didn’t go to Ojai this year, we were there in spirit, so today I thought I’d share with you a previous visit we made to the Ojai Artists Studio Tour. Ojai, California is a charming and very quaint small town, located about an hour and a half north of Los Angeles. This rural area is full of natural scenic beauty which has attracted many artists to the area.
In fact, it has also attracted celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon, whose beautiful ranch style home you may be familiar with, as it was featured in Elle Decor and House Beautiful magazines.

Reese purchased the home in 2008 from acclaimed designer Kathryn Ireland and has since sold the estate.

Also, one of my favorite bloggers, designer Brooke Giannetti of Velvet & Linen makes her home in Ojai.
His studio is located on the expansive grounds of his beautiful estate.
His driveway is lined with examples of his work, tucked into the beautiful landscaping.
During our visit to his studio I had the opportunity to speak to Mr. Gall. He told me that since owning his home he has planted hundreds of plants, many of which he uses as inspiration for his sculptures.
Created through a process called lost wax casting, the human form is the primary focus of his sculptures.
Most of his work features human figures, many with moving parts, but all the result of Ted Gall’s wild and limitless imagination.
He is known for his sculptures of heads that open up to reveal a whole little world inside.
Open this rabbit’s head and you find Alice in Wonderland.
Open this pig’s head to reveal the figure of a man’s head. From every angle these sculptures tell a story.
According to Ted Gall, the stories they reveal should be your own.
He intentionally does not name his work, preferring that the viewer use their own imagination to come up with their own stories about his work, which has been called “Head Games”. The beautiful metal finishes are achieved using chemicals that produce patinas of many colors.
You can watch this short video featuring Ted Gall speaking about his art below or visit his website here.
Stay tuned and in my next post I’ll take you to the studies of several more talented Ojai artists.
