A WALKING TOUR OF BRUGGE
Greetings! As promised in my last travel post, today I’ll be taking you on a walking tour of Brugge, Belgium.
While you can explore Brugge by motor boat…
or by motor bike…
by bicycle…
or by horse drawn carriage…
I say Brugge is a town meant for walking. In fact, I recommend that you simply walk with abandon as we did. We walked by day, exploring narrow cobblestone streets, wondering what surprises awaited us at the end of each one.
Because around every corner…
down every narrow alleyway or winding lane…
and behind open gates was another treasure for the eyes, spirit and soul.
We walked at dusk and admired the buildings that glowed in the last rays of sunlight.
And we walked at night…
peering into the pretty, illuminated shop windows, many of which were decked out for the holidays.
I delighted in this charming Belgian Linen shop where I spent way too much money on Christmas gifts.
And I purchased gifts for others (and myself) in this Belgian Tapestry shop where the prices were unexpectedly affordable.
Each time of day, and each angle of light, painted a different portrait of this UNESCO World Heritage City.
Brugge is the epitome of an utterly charming European small town where time stood still. It feels like a medieval European village that was somehow transported unscathed into the 21st Century. And what’s so extra special about that is that while it has the feel of an ancient small town, it has all the class and sophistication of a contemporary metropolis. It’s a fascinating fusion of new tucked into old. Overflowing with an abundance of Michelin starred restaurants, delicious food is not in short supply in Brugge.
So stay tuned and in my next travel post I’ll take you on a decadent dining extravaganza in this impossibly charming town! It’s going to be delicious! And in case you missed it, have a look at my tour of Brugge by boat by clicking here.
