20 TERRIFIC IDEAS FOR DECORATING EASTER EGGS

Can you believe Easter will be here at the end of next week? I’m excited because my son is coming to visit from DC with my 2 precious grandbabies. My little prince…

and Princess.

I promised them that we would decorate easter eggs together, something I haven’t done in quite awhile. So, toward that end I’ve collected 20 terrific ideas for decorating Easter eggs that I thought I’d share with you today.

Here goes…

I love these pink and metallic gold eggs from Riches For Rags because they match my granddaughter’s Princess costume perfectly. I think she’d like these.

Or perhaps we should make these Queen Bee Easter Eggs by Craftberry Bush. All we’d need is some ink and rubber stamps!

I’d also like to make these Golden Eggs from Style Me Pretty. They’d make such a lovely placecard holder for my Easter table.

If I were dying eggs to put in Stone Hill Cottage, which I decorated in black & white, I’d make these eggs from Obviously Sweet. All you need is a black Sharpie marking pen.

But then I also really like these black & white polka dot eggs from Style At Home.

And if we were going with a black & white theme I might make these charming fellows that are decorated with Washi tape.

But actually I prefer pastel colors at Easter and I think my grandchildren, who are only 2 & 3 years old, would have a much easier time making eggs like these glittery ones from Social Graces.

Or we could paint some pastel polka dots with instructions from A Creative Mint.

If you prefer a more natural approach to egg dying check this out over on Your Home Based Mom. She uses the natural pigments from things like red onions, beets and blueberries to dye eggs.

I might decide to do as Posie Gets Cozy does and use sprigs of leaves from my garden to decorate Easter eggs.

Then there were these stunning decoupaged eggs I found over on Martha Stewart’s website. They are made with ostrich & goose eggs.

But before we start decorating we will need to make a whole bunch of hard boiled eggs. If you’re doing the same you might want to know How to Make the Perfect Hard Boiled Egg. Here’s what Bon Appetit Magazine has to say on the subject:

“There’s a wide gulf between an expertly hard-boiled egg and just any hard-boiled egg. Do it wrong and you’ll get a rubbery white and a chalky yolk with an unsightly green ring. Do it right and you’ll get a just-set white and a wonderfully creamy, bright-yellow yolk. It’s just the thing to add heft to salads, to devil, to savor unadorned. In other words, it’s an important technique to nail.”

Here’s how:

• Place 6 large eggs (older eggs will be easier to peel) in a medium heavy saucepan.
• Add water to cover by 1 1/2″.
• Bring to a boil; immediately remove from heat.
• Cover and let stand for 10 minutes.
• Transfer eggs to a bowl of ice water to cool.
• Gently crack the eggs and peel under running water for ease.
