LUXURY BOHEMIAN RETREAT IN SOMERSET ENGLAND
Greetings. Today I wanted to share with you a luxury Bohemian retreat in Somerset England that I discovered while looking at European rental properties. I dream of taking a trip to Europe with all my kids that would be relaxing, a real vacation rather than the hurried sightseeing extravaganza that most of our trips entail. We are actually thinking of going to Spain this summer and bringing along my 89 year old Spanish dad. So how I ended up looking at homes is England, I’m not sure. What I am sure of is how much I’d like to stay in a home like this one. Brad and I honeymooned in England and to me the English countryside is one of the most charming places on earth.
I know I’d be simply blown away arriving at this home for the first time and entering through those giant 10 foot high reclaimed oak doors.
The home is a former 16th century cider press factory turned country retreat. It sleeps up to 20 people in 10 beautifully-appointed bedrooms, so it would be perfect for a family reunion.
It is designed around an expansive courtyard adorned with a charming little cherub fountain in the middle. Stepping inside is this whimsical looking dining table that seats 14. I just love the bright pop of unexpected red and the simple pendant lights hanging strategically above the table.
I can just imagine serving wonderful meals at this table, made from farm fresh ingredients from the local village.
It would be a joy to prepare meals together in this expansive kitchen. And wouldn’t it be fun to enjoy a morning swim in the indoor pool?
I could see our family relaxing and watching a movie in this rough-luxe style media room with a giant coffee table that looks like it was fashioned of old shipping pallets and reclaimed wood. I’m always amazed by the ingenuity of pieces like that, which find a welcome home in a room like this one. The clean lines of the fireplace surround, juxtapositioned with the unrefined simplicity of that table work beautifully together. Throw in the blond, wooden plank floors and the rough hewn beams above and you have a masterpiece.
And when not watching a movie I could get very comfortable in that cozy looking couch, curled up with a cup of tea and a good book.
And I know my kids would make great use of the billiards table nearby.
The clean, natural and uncomplicated living spaces makes this house feel so comfortable and laidback. It has just the right mix of bohemian casual and country chic.
Another thing I love about England is their practice of enjoying tea time every afternoon. I think I could get very accustomed to the practice if I could take my tea in the courtyard of this home.
Or we could have an afternoon picnic on the green grounds of the expansive property.
Or how about a little boat ride on the nearby creek? How idyllic would that be?
As evening approached I could see us having cocktails on the candle lit back portico.
And how great would it be to go to sleep each night in one of these pretty bedrooms, complete with fine white linens and soft plump pillows?
I might just be tempted to have breakfast in bed.
Everything about this cozy corner just seems right. The mural map on the wall and the globe nearby. Love it! Let’s see, where in the world should we go next?
And I’d love to get ready in the morning in this bathroom with its pretty blue tile and original exposed wooden beams.
Or how about this bathroom to really get you going in the morning? It would take some gumpshun to paper a wall in this bold of a color but somehow I think it works here.
I wouldn’t mind a relaxing soak in this tub either.
With just the right amount rustic, a fun bit of whimsey and a pop of color, this UK vacation rental home is a winner in my book.
