SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 13
Greetings and thank you for joining me today for…
Sundays With Celia Vol 13
If you’ve been following along lately you know that I just returned from Chicago where I got my son moved into his apartment at The University of Chicago Law School. If you missed my post with the before & after photos of his apartment transformation you can see it here.
No sooner had I returned home than I left on another trip, this time to Las Vegas on a business trip with my husband. Every year around this time he attends a trade show there and I tag along for a couple of days of fun. We have been making this pilgrimage to Sin City for about 25 years now. It used to be that we were escaping the kids for a few days of adult time. This year, for the very first time, we went to Las Vegas as empty nesters. Nonetheless, it was still a special time to be away from home with my husband in a beautiful hotel where I could relax and enjoy some down time. Because of its convenient location, right next to the Las Vegas Convention Center, we usually stay at The Venetian Hotel, and this time was no exception.
I’ve stayed at all of the nice hotels in Vegas, but find that I like The Venetian best. The rooms are beautiful, luxurious and spacious…
the gardens and pools are beautiful as well…
the Canyon Ranch Spa is my favorite spa, the shops and Italian style streetscape is fun to walk…
you can watch gondolas go by on the Grand Canal as gondoliers serenade their passengers with Italian melodies…
and the dozens of great restaurants make picking where to eat very difficult, as there are so many great ones to choose from. We decided on Chef Thomas Keller’s (of The French Laundry) Bouchon Bistro for dinner the first night. We had eaten at this bastion of French cuisine before and enjoyed it, so we decided on it again.
We met Brad’s business partner at the bar for a pre-dinner glass of wine. They served us an Epi Baguette of delicious, crunchy bread that was so fresh and authentic French tasting that I bought a loaf to take home. The Venetian also has no less than 3 Bouchon Bakeries where I was able to get my morning Latte and Epi Baguette for the road on departure day.
The second night my nephew Casey was in town to attend the same trade show. I showed you some beautiful photos of his backpacking trip in the High Sierras in this previous post. We took him to dinner at B & B Ristorante, Chef Mario Batali’s emporium of Italian food.
I am a super big fan of Mario Batali and respect him so much, as I told you in this post about my visit to Eataly.
I ordered and very much enjoyed this delicious grilled octopus for dinner.
On this visit to The Venetian Hotel we were given a room in the Venezia Tower. The Venezia is designed to provide a more secluded, quiet and restful experience; therefore, it is more removed from the hustle and bustle of the main casino floor and resort. As we are not gamblers and don’t enjoy walking through the smoky casino to get to our room, this location was preferable to us. I also liked the fact that it had its own pool and gardens which were far less crowded than the main pool area. Stay tuned and in an upcoming post I’ll take you on an extended tour of our hotel room. I couldn’t help comparing it to my last visit to Las Vegas, that I told you about in this post. I was there last December as the guest of my son and his company Famous DC. They hosted a Pre-Party for the Presidential Debate that took place at the Venetian Hotel’s sister property, The Palazzo, which is where we stayed as well. Coming up on the blog I’ll give you my comparisons and tell you which hotel I liked better.
Some Sweet Music on Sunday
Have you heard of the 3-year-old singing sensation and YouTube star, Claire Ryann? Her latest video singing the Les Misérable song “Castle on a Cloud” debuted this week and it’s a must see. Enjoy…
Words of Wisdom on Sunday
As busy as my life can often get, I try never to say “I’m too busy” to do something. That’s because I think saying you’re too busy is never a good excuse for anything. That’s because the truth is you are never too busy for anything, it all depends on how you set your priorities. Just thought I’d leave you with that little thought for the day. Have a great one!
So there you have it: SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 13
