SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOl 14
Greetings and thanks for joining me for SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOl 14.
My Week In Review
I began the week by hosting my Healthy Cooking Group for an Antioxidant Rich Dinner Party. If you missed my healthy post about foods rich in antioxidants along with some yummy recipes you can read it by clicking here. It was likely one of the last times I’ll be entertaining on the terrace this year, as fall is definitely in the air here in lovely Lake Arrowhead.
I decided to give my “healthy” girlfriends a party favor and made pretty jars of Matcha Green Tea Sugar Body Scrub for them to take home. This easy-to-make DIY scrub is prepared with ingredients you may already have in your kitchen, and it smells good enough to eat. In yesterday’s post I taught you how to make it. The beautiful green color, resulting from the addition of organic Matcha Green Tea, would also make a perfect holiday gift from your kitchen. Just thinking ahead to the holidays that will be here before you know it!
On Friday I enjoyed Book Club, hosted by my friend Nancy, former Covergirl and former wife of a legendary rock star. I introduced you to Nancy in a previous post which has continued to be one of my all time most popular blog posts.
Nancy has many talents, one of which happens to be cooking. So our Book Club luncheons at her home are always delicious ones. Her yummy Cauliflower Soup topped with toasted bread crumbs was a great way to usher in fall foods. We sat on her pretty terrace overlooking her 3 acre horse ranch and apple orchards. Speaking of apples…
Nancy and her husband make their own hard apple cider from the apples they grow on their property. She shared her expertise in the making of hard apple cider in this previous blog post.
Nancy asked me to contribute dessert to our Book Club luncheon, so, with my own ode to fall, I prepared Pumpkin Pie.
Pumpkin Pie is so easy to make and isn’t just for Thanksgiving. I actually like to make this nutritious dessert year round. You can get my yummy recipe by clicking here.
This week I also paid a final visit to Stone Hill Cottage and met its new owners, lovely folks from Malibu that now love their new/old mountain retreat as much as I do.
They are super nice people and, as it turns out, very generous as well, as they offered to give me back the three, 4 poster beds I had in the bunk room. They are transforming the room into their master bedroom and didn’t need the beds. I willingly took them, as they will make a great addition to my next fixer upper.
While I was there picking up the beds I had a lovely time telling the buyers everything I knew about the property, as it has an interesting history dating back to the early Big Bear pioneers. We also talked about the neighboring property that is such a beauty. In fact, I showed you a bit of it in this previous post.
I had always longed to meet the owners and get a tour of this charming log cabin, but alas I never did. Rumor had it that it was owned by an old time Hollywood celebrity. Well wouldn’t you know, the lovely people who purchased Stone Hill Cottage from me wasted no time in getting acquainted with the owner, who visits on rare occasions from his home in Hawaii.
Turns out it was build as a hunting lodge and was owned by Actor Lew Ayres who was married to Ginger Rogers at the time! Isn’t that cool?
Speaking of Fixer-Uppers on Sunday
Well, speaking of my next fixer-upper, Brad and I discovered a really wonderful home for sale here in Lake Arrowhead. After restoring and selling 2 homes in nearby Big Bear Lake, we’ve decided to look for our next project here in our hometown. We have an offer in on this beauty, so please keep your fingers crossed that one day it will be ours. I’m not getting too excited yet, but in all honesty, I’ve already got every inch of the place designed in my head.
I adore all the windows, the 2 giant stone fireplaces and the beautiful forested setting on an acre of land. Like my last two fixers, this one is a total gut job. It needs absolutely everything! Just my kinda place. Now let’s see if they will only accept our offer. Think good thoughts for me, OK?
What I’ll Be Doing This Sunday Night
I’m a fan of PBS’s Masterpiece Theater and I’m delighted to report that this evening is the season premier of season 2 of Poldark (8 ET/PT). Poldark is a British Army officer who returns to his home in Cornwall following the American Revolutionary War only to find that his fiancée Elizabeth Chynoweth believed him dead and is about to marry his cousin Francis Poldark. Ross attempts to restore his own fortunes by reopening one of the family’s derelict tin mines. After several years, he marries Demelza Carne, a poor servant girl, and is gradually reconciled to the loss of Elizabeth’s love.
I CAN’T WAIT! Will you be watching too?
