SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 18
Greetings and welcome to Sundays With Celia Vol 18. I’m so happy you popped into my world today. It’s been a very busy week here on my mountaintop, with gorgeous fall weather and beautiful changing of the leaves.
This is what fall is looking like around my house.
So, where do I begin? Well, let’s start with…
Las Vegas on Sunday
Las Vegas, it’s where my oldest son Nathan was and I wasn’t! I hate that he was so close, yet so far away, because Nathan is my DC dwelling son and there he was a mere 3 1/2 hour drive away in Las Vegas, instead of a 5 hour plane ride away in DC, and I didn’t get to see him. That’s because he was in Las Vegas on business for literally less than 24 hours, so I decided I wouldn’t try to steal even a little time from him in that tiny window. But I thought I’d share with you why he was there. Nathan is engaged in several successful enterprises, one of which is his partnership in a great website called FamousDC.
Nathan’s on the right with his partners in FamousDC
It’s a terrific website that brings you everything you’d want to know about, actually, the not-so-famous people in DC, the staffers on the hill, and those people behind the scenes that really make DC rock and roll. And one thing that FamousDC is known for is throwing the best darn parties, in DC or wherever politics is happening. Since politics was happening in Las Vegas this week with the matchup between Hillary & The Donald, so too was FamousDC, throwing another one of their epic parties, this time at Tao Beach at The Venetian Hotel.
VIPs from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, Facebook, POLITICO, Hillary for America, Twitter, Bloomberg, Buzzfeed, Trump for President and more mixed and mingled under the Vegas night sky at FamousDC’s exclusive Tao Beach fete at the Venetian Hotel. Their party leading up to the last big debate of 2016 featured craft cocktails, exquisite hors d’oeuvres and a guest list that included some of the biggest names in national politics and media. Like earlier this year when I did attend the FamousDC pre-debate party in Vegas, my name was on the guest list too, but this time I was home throwing my own Debate & Dinner Party.
Debate & A Dinner Party
Fall was in the air and so were the likes of our candidates for President “on” the air. And my friends and I were not above finding another excuse to get together once again for the final Clash of the Titans. Taking inspiration from last weekend’s Lake Arrowhead Kitchen Tour, I prepared Brazilian food for the big matchup dinner & debate.
Having tasted authentic Brazilian Cheese Bread, Pão de Queijo, on the Kitchen Tour, I decided to give this recipe for little balls of gooey, chewy goodness a shot. They were DELICIOUS, but I still need to perfect the recipe before I share it with you. But share I will very soon because these babies are YUMMY!
Food Love on Sunday
So my friends, at a recent party I attended at my friend Maureen’s home she served a very simple appetizer that to tell you the truth, I tasted with hesitation and reluctance. That’s because I’m not a fan of savory preserves. I don’t put mint jelly on my lamb and I don’t put elderberry preserves on my Swedish meatballs. And I didn’t think onions and maple bacon sounded like very good partners, but boy was I wrong! You see, my friend Maureen had taken some crackers and spread a little goat cheese on them, and then dolloped a little dab of Stonewall Kitchen’s Maple Bacon Onion Jam on top. One taste and I thought I had died and gone to heaven!! Seriously, it was that good! In fact, I think I’m going to add this Maple Bacon Onion Jam to my “last meal” list of things to eat one last time before I die.
And seriously, when Maureen told me it was jam from Stonewall Kitchen I wasn’t the least bit surprised because I love their products. And I really like and respect their business. When we were in Maine a few years ago we drove past their headquarters and didn’t stop! I regret it to this day and am planning a trip back to Maine just to include Stonewall Kitchen on the itinerary. Watch this little video and you’ll see what I mean.
Big News This Sunday!
Drum roll please…
We are in escrow on our next mountain fixer-upper!!! I’m actually hesitant to even mention it because we still have to have all of the inspections done before it’s truly a done deal but seriously, it’s a real charmer. And, it’s here in Lake Arrowhead, my hometown, unlike my last fixer-uppers which were in nearby Big Bear Lake. It’s not the house I showed you previously, that one didn’t work out. But I’m a big believer in fate and think it didn’t happen because this baby was waiting for us. Stay tuned for regular updates. Here’s a tiny sneak peek…
A seasonal stream runs in front of the house, thus the charming little bridge.
This is the home from the side. Isn’t it cute!!?? Cross your fingers that it will soon be mine! I can’t wait to transform it!
Artist Studio Tour on Sunday
Today is your last chance to come on up to beautiful Lake Arrowhead for the 4th Annual Artist Studio Tour. For more information click here. Be there or be square!
A Look Back on Sunday
Before I sign off I want to make sure you didn’t miss these posts from earlier in the week!
We had cocktails with donkeys…
and dinner with red rabbits. I can’t think of a better way to drink & dine. Who are you dining with on Sunday?
Final Thoughts on Sunday
In this fall season of debate I’m reminded of these words of wisdom my father-in-law used to say…
So there you have it: SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 18
