SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 20
Sundays With Celia Vol 20
Hello and welcome to Sundays With Celia Vol 20. I’m delighted you’re here! I can hardly believe it’s been 20 weeks since I started my new series, Sundays With Celia, which have quickly become my most popular posts. Thank you!
Looking Back On Sunday
This has been a delicious week here at After Orange County. I shared my recipes for Meatloaf With Cheesy Mashed Potatoes…
and my recipe for a delicious and Easy Almond Cake. Have you tried them yet? If so, please let me know how you liked them!
Famous Chefs On Sunday
I’m not the only one in my family who likes to cook. My foodie tendencies have rubbed off on my oldest son, Nathan, who is a genius in the kitchen. Nathan very much admires José Andrés, the Spanish chef often credited with bringing the small plates dining concept to America. Among other restaurants, José Andrés is the owner of Jaleo, a DC small-plates, Tapas style restaurant our Spanish family has been going to ever since Nathan moved to DC for college.
So, last Sunday when my son happened to be in his front yard, who should come walking up but my son’s cooking idol, Chef José Andrés! Apparently he was visiting the neighbor, another family (like ours) from La Coruña, Spain. A short conversation ensued and José couldn’t believe that not only does my Spanish son Nathan live on the street, but so does José’s Spanish friends and the Spanish Ambassador as well! Three Spanish families on one block! It truly is a very small world. I told Nathan he needs to get to know his neighbors stat!!
Actually, they kind of look a bit alike. Well, until they hopefully meet again, Nathan is just going to have to settle for cooking from José Andrés’ cookbooks, the bible as far as Spanish cooking goes. I highly recommend them both!

Here’s Something Else to Wet Your Appetite on Sunday…
Our little community of Lake Arrowhead has many special things going for it, one of which is our Mountain Cinema Club that brings foreign & independent films to our small community. I have known about this club for years, as many of my friends are members, but I had never gone because I couldn’t get my husband to join me. That’s because, as he likes to say, “He doesn’t like to read movies.” So, it wasn’t until last Wednesday night that I finally attended a showing with girlfriends, and boy was I delighted I did! The movie we watched was called Haute Cuisine.
It’s a French comedy with English subtitles that’s based on the true story of Danièle Delpeuch, a modest provincial chef and restaurant-owner who in the late 1980s was summoned by President François Mitterrand to be his personal cook at his official residence, the Elysée Palace. This ruffles the feathers of the official in-house Elysée chef, who wants to have nothing to do with a woman in his kitchen. But President Mitterrand, having just been re-elected for another seven year term was tired of the overly ornate and fancy food he’d previously been served. So, he began his new term by proclaiming to an adviser: “I want a woman from the country in my kitchen!”
A delicious story unfolds, as the President and his new female chef become acquainted over a shared love of rustic French fare and childhood memories of their grandmother’s kitchens. The beautiful food-pornesque cinematography will make your mouth water, so be sure and eat before you see this film.

Crypt Believed to Be Jesus’ Tomb Opened for First Time in Centuries
For centuries, no one had looked inside – until last week, when a crew of specialists opened the tomb in Jerusalem’s Old City and found the limestone burial bed where tradition says the body of Jesus Christ lay after his crucifixion and before his resurrection. The New York Times published an interesting article on the subject of this tomb, which has now been sealed after it was opened as part of a complex renovation of the shrine built around it. Only about 50 people got to lay eyes on it before it was closed for what will likely be another few centuries. Read the full article here. Makes me want to add Jerusalem to my bucket list.
Lake Life On Sunday
So, even though I live at a lake, I can never get enough of lake life in all forms. I save pictures of lakes on a Pinterest board and I dream of traveling to other pretty lakes around the world. So when I saw this little video, produced by one of my favorite retailers, Terrain, I wanted to share it with you. It makes me want to find that house on Lake George in New York and go stay there, with burnt marshmallows and all!
