AN UNCOMMONLY GREAT RESOURCE
Hello and thanks for popping in. Today I’d like to share an uncommonly great resource with you. It’s a company called UncommonGoods and they really are a rather extraordinary company.
As a blogger I’m often approached by companies asking me to promote their goods or services. Since my blog is my business, I admittedly consider all the opportunities that come my way. That said, I feel I owe it to my followers to only promote companies whose products I use myself and can speak about in a sincere and authentic voice. So, when an online company called UncommonGoods approached me I did my homework, and what I discovered is that not only do they have a wide selection of products that I would buy for myself or as gifts for others, they are also a genuinely good company.
In doing my homework I learned that UncommonGoods has created a company that is sustainable in all its aspects, and that impressed me. What I mean by “sustainable” is the fact that they seek to minimize their environmental impact in all areas of their operation. For example, they work with all their suppliers to insure that they use sustainable or recycled materials. And because they are an online marketplace with a printed catalog that they mail out, they use only environmentally friendly packing materials and print their catalogs on Forest Stewardship Council certified and recycled paper. That makes me feel a little better about getting yet another catalog in the mail.
But what really sets UncommonGoods apart is their uncommon merchandise. Founder Dave Bolotsky started UncommonGoods in 1999 with one goal in mind: to source a variety of unique handmade goods made by talented artisans from around the world and then connect those makers and their creations with individuals looking to purchase truly special goods. Dave had a vision to create something that had never existed before — an online marketplace that would bridge the distance between the maker and the shopper, no matter how far the physical distance. He turned this idea into UncommonGoods and ever since has been collaborating both with emerging designers from 3rd world countries who may be introducing their work to the world for the first time, and also with seasoned American artists who often craft each of their unique pieces by hand. It’s a company that celebrates artists, craftsmanship, innovation and creative thinkers around the world.
UncommonGoods likes to say that there’s a story behind every product they sell and that’s one of the things that drew me in. You see, I’ve got a story behind what I ordered from UncommonGoods that I’d like to share with you today.
So, just when I thought I was done with all of my Christmas shopping, gift wrapping and gift giving I realized that in the month of January 3 people very close to me celebrate their birthdays. My BFF’s birthday was January 8th, my New York dwelling son’s birthday was January 11th and my stepmother’s birthday is today! Since I’ve tried without success to get them all to change the dates of their birthdays, this year I turned to UncommonGoods for help.
As with many Millennials, my New York dwelling son is embracing some things that were popular in his grandparents’ era. In Adam’s case he has acquired a interest in the art of the classic cocktail, mixology if you will, and is particularly fond of The Manhattan. That happens to be apropos, as he lives just outside of Manhattan on Long Island where he likes to experiment with perfecting the art of The Manhattan. Toward that end I decided to give him a book called The Manhattan: The Story of the First Modern Cocktail with Recipes. So if you’re thirsty for a good story, you’ve come to the right place.
But to make my gift complete I ordered a bunch of fun birthday gift stuff from UncommonGoods. It was really exciting when my box of goodies arrived.
The Manhattan is arguably the most successful and longest lived of the classic stirred cocktails and UncommonGoods sells a really cute bar towel that just happens to be printed with recipes and tips for making twenty classic cocktails, including The Manhattan!
This organic cotton bar towel costs $ 14.00. You can order yours by clicking here.
In addition I ordered a set of Devil’s Dictionary Finance Glasses which feature iconic industry terms and their satirical definitions. Again, another ode to Manhattan. They are $25.00 for a set of 2.
And finally, to complete my gift I ordered these really special cedar wood Neighborwoods Map Coasters etched with snippets of the maps of 4 Manhattan neighborhoods. They come in a cute little drawstring pouch.
Choose your favorite neighborhood coasters by clicking here. $36.00 for 4.
One last thing that impresses me about UncommonGoods is their “Forever Guarantee” which allows customers to return an item at any time, for any reason. Check them out and see what uncommongoods you might like for yourself and follow them on Instagram for lots of great birthday, anniversary and personalized wedding gifts and much more.
So there you have it: AN UNCOMMONLY GREAT RESOURCE
