HOW TO HOST THE PERFECT PRINCESS AND THE FROG BIRTHDAY PARTY
Greetings! Thank you for leaping on over to my lily pad. Now that you’re here, I’d like to invite you to join the party. It was my Granddaughter’s 3rd Birthday, and my Grandson’s 2nd about a year ago and we celebrated in a big way. So big that it has taken me all this time to bring you the birthday party! Since then they have celebrated their 3rd & 4th birthdays which I promise to bring you soon. My Grandchildren were very conveniently born 1 year and 1 day apart! That makes party planning double the fun, because at least for now they don’t mind celebrating their big days together. The challenge is coming up with a theme that works both for girls and boys alike. But thanks to a recent Disney film, The Princess and the Frog, the problem is solved! So come with me and I’ll show you how to host the perfect princess and the frog birthday party.

My daughter-in-law, party planner extraordinaire, makes it look easy. And if you follow this step-by-step tutorial, you too can host your own Princess and the Frog Birthday Party without having to reinvent the wheel.
Step 1 ~ Hire an amazing photographer to capture the special day in photos. If you live in the DC area, I highly recommend Megan Tynan of Celtic Gray Photography. She gets the credit for all the stunning photos in this blogpost. Contact her here.
Step 2 ~ Make a great 1st impression with colorful helium balloons at the front door.
Step 3 ~ Fill the foyer with balloons as well. Then invite your guests to take one home later on as they depart the party.
Step 4 ~ Pick a color scheme and run with it. From the invitations, to the party decor, to the birthday apparel, make a statement and stick to it. In this case pink & glittery gold were perfect for the Princess, & green was the obvious choice for the Frog.

Step 5 ~ Produce wonderful invitations online at websites like Minted. Join Ebates here and get 1.5% cashback on your Minted purchase too! Or have the creative Heather Myers of RiverAndBridge.com create a spectacular custom invitation like ours. Frame the invitation and it becomes party decor as well as a treasured keepsake.
Step 6 ~ Decorate with flowers and candles. Flowers are so affordable at Costco, and you can purchase inexpensive vases at IKEA.
For an extra touch wrap your vases in pink ribbon from Paper Source (get 3.5% cashback from Ebates) and it turns out Lindt Chocolate makes the cutest little chocolate frogs (usually available around Valentine’s Day).
The friendly frog below can be purchased here, and the silver cache pot comes from The Enchanted Home. Get golden confetti for your tabletops here.
Step 7 ~ Invite lots of family & friends. I say make it a family affair with moms, dads & siblings included. But the kids will always steal the show!
Step 8 – Dress the Birthday Boy & Girl to match the party theme. Get cute monogrammed apparel for boys & girls from Kelly’s Kids. They even have matching mommy-wear as well!
Step 9 – Decorate with Tissue. You can never have too many honeycomb tissue balls. Buy them in party-coordinating-colors here from this great online shop called Sweet LuLu. Plus, what could be more apropos for a party featuring a frog than these darling tissue lilly pads? Pick them up here on Etsy where you can also get 1% cashback from Ebates.
Add more cute little green frogs and you’re in business!
Step 10 ~ Decorate other areas of your home such as the fireplace mantels. This glittery Happy Birthday Bunting comes from Etsy here. Get the darling Frog Prince Nutcracker here and the gold numbers are from here.
Number 11 ~ Decorate with themed children’s books. Don’t Kiss The Frog, The Frog Prince…
Frog and Toad Together, I Don’t Want to be a Frog, Do Princesses Really Kiss Frogs, Part-time Princess.
Step 12 ~ Make sure there are plenty of kid-friendly activities to keep the kiddos occupied. Turn your kitchen table into an art center where kids get to decorate their own regal crowns with acrylic adhesive jewels.
And hire your favorite babysitter to help out, freeing you from having to supervise.
Provide watercolors and Princess and the Frog coloring books for another fun activity.
Step 13 – Get a blowup child’s pool and fill it with oodles of colorful balls from Amazon.com to make a fun Ball Pit. It’s like Chuck e Cheese at home and it was electrifying fun for all!
Step 14 – Everyone loves a Bouncy House. Get one like this on Amazon here. We moved the furniture out of the basement and set this up indoors.
Step 15 ~ Hire entertainment. For this party my kids hired one of the most popular kids entertainers in DC, The Great Zucchini. I have never, ever seen so many happy kids in one place ever! Boy does The Great Zucchini have what it takes to captivate kids.
Step 16 ~ Make a cupcake decorating station. Nothing is more enchanting for children than to decorate a cupcake and then devour it, getting more on their hands and face than in their mouths. This should be a day for complete abandon!

Get The Cute Frog Trash Bin here.
Step 17 ~ Add a kids beverage station to wash it all down. Freeze a carton of milk, then add it to a drink dispenser (sold at Costco) that’s filled with milk. It will stay chilled for hours. And since frogs live in swamps, add a dispenser of Swamp Juice (Green) for good measure. Serve the milk in vintage style milk bottles with decorative straws in pink, green and gold.
Step 18 ~ Parents get thirsty too, so make sure there are grownup beverages as well. For starters, set up a festive bubbly bar with champagne, wine & beer from down on the Bayou. An adult punch rounds out the selection of self-serve beverages.

Serve Swamp Pop Praline Creme Soda
Get the Glittery Flag Bunting Banner here.
We also set up a coffee station complete with Chicory coffee from the iconic Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans. Baileys, Amaretto, Kahlua and other delicious liquors were available to spike the coffee.
Step 19 ~ No bar or buffet would be complete without coordinating napkins. Get these cute frog prince cocktail napkins here.
Step 20 ~ Don’t forget to serve non-alcoholic drinks as well. And make sure all your guests have the Uber App on their phones!
Step 21 ~ Where there is drink there should also be food, lots of fun, kid-friendly finger food. It helps to solicit the services of a Grandmother who loves to cook. In this case that would be me. Normally we would have to spend a day shopping for party food all around town. Not anymore! In DC you can now call on the services of a great company called InstatCart and have your groceries delivered within an hour! What a lifesaver for less than what you’d pay for gas! No more sending husbands on last minute shopping expeditions. I love it!!!
Since the Princess and the Frog story took place in New Orleans we planned a New Orleans influenced menu. Fried chicken fingers, Muffaletta Sandwiches, Jambalaya and my famous French Sandwich. Get the ever-so-delicious and popular recipe for Celia’s French Sandwich here.

And for dessert what could be more wonderful than a chocolate fountain?
Step 22 ~ It takes a village to pull off a successful event like this. So, hire a bartender and kitchen helper. Our favorite helper is Mr. Kim from The Chart House in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. He helps out at all of my son’s functions. With 30 year’s experience in the restaurant industry, he is always a huge help!
Step 23 ~ Say thank you to your guests with themed party favors. Tie up bags of gummy frogs, complete with a tie-on thank you card. Place them by the front door for your guests to grab on their way out the door.
Thank you so much for joining the party today. You’re invited to the next birthday party coming soon so stay tuned!
