SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 36
Hi there. I hope you are enjoying your Sunday. Thanks so much for popping in here for Sundays With Celia Vol 36.
Looking Back On Sunday
This week I told you the incredible story of the man Brad & I met in the Salt Lake City airport. His son was denied lung transplant surgery and left to die because pot was found in his system. If you missed this important story you can access it by clicking here.
Breakfast At The White House
Sometimes I like to live vicariously through the lives of my children who lead far more exciting lives than I do. For example, this week my DC dwelling son had breakfast at the White House. So much for my exciting week here on my mountaintop.
The closest I can get to breakfast in The White House is in my Butler’s Pantry where I possess the same china as they do, albeit without the White House seal. Oh well…
A Gaggle of Geese & A Family of Ducks On Sunday
One of the things I enjoy about Spring is the return of wildlife to our mountain top. Last week while coming out of the Lake Arrowhead Pilates Studio I watched as this mother duck led her new little family through Lake Arrowhead Village. So sweet.
Next, however, I encountered a not-so-friendly group of geese.
I’ve heard geese can be troublesome and I learned first hand that’s a fact when the presumed patriarch of this gaggle of geese decided he didn’t like me photographing his flock and charged me. With his menacing neck outstretched, he squawked and hollered so loud he sent me running for my car.
Then I came home only to find this pile of sticks on my front porch. At first I couldn’t image how they got there.
That was until an angry Steller Jay swooped down, startling me. It was then I discovered that she and her mate were building a nest in the rafters above. I guess I won’t be cleaning up this mess anytime soon, as can you imagine how hard those birds worked to gather all these sticks? If you look hard at the photo below you can just make out the bird, building her nest on the ledge.
And while we are on the subject of wildlife, have you seen what this puffer fish does to attract a mate? It is simply AMAZING!
Entertainment On Sunday
For those of you going through Big Little Lies withdrawals, now you can relive the the best-selling novel turned HBO series in real life by navigating this scenic route along California’s beautiful Hwy 1. Click on the map to take you to many of the locations used in the filming of Big Little Lies. And by the way, you don’t have to be a fan of the series to enjoy this exceptionally beautiful area of Northern California.
Slightly South of Simple On Sunday
In closing I wanted to recommend a good read for your Sunday afternoon. It’s the book I just finished while on our recent trip to Vancouver. As much as I love to read, I don’t do as much of it as I’d like because I’m just too busy to read when I’m home. But there’s nothing like a good book to make an airline flight fly by. So whenever I travel I make sure to bring along a book or 2. This trip it was the novel called, Slightly South of Simple, written by my friend and fellow blogger, Kristy Woodson Harvey.
Kristy has now penned 3 Bestselling novels, all of which I have plowed through so fast I am left waiting in anticipation for the release of her next book. Kristy specializes in writing feel-good stories about women, all set in the South.
So, I was excited when she sent me an advance copy of Slightly South of Simple, because just as I had anticipated, it was a delight to read. The good news is that this book is the first of a series that Kristy is writing called the Peachtree Bluff Series, so we now have much more to look forward to!
As the mother of 3 boys, I could relate to the mother character in this story, Ansley, who is the strong matriarch of 3, not-so-simple adult daughters. Each one of Ansley’s daughters come home to their roots, the seemingly idyllic southern seaside town called Peachtree Bluff. The story weaves its way through the characters’ lives, each with their own unique & individual challenges.
Watch this short video as Kristy gives us, in her own words, a peek into the world of Peachtree Bluff.
