A FALL DINNER PARTY
Well, I don’t know about you but as much as I love fall, I’m not quite ready for summer to be over. Yet here in Lake Arrowhead there is a chill in the air and the leaves are beginning to turn, so I might as well face it, fall has arrived. To help me get in the spirit of the season I decided to have A Fall Dinner Party to thank our friends, Brenda & Jim, for lending us their charming, vintage-style trailer for our recent Proposal Trip to Yosemite. So, I began by adding some fall decor to my home.
Every year around this time I add to my collection of Homemade Cloth Pumpkins. Having saved and dried pumpkin stems from the previous fall, I sew more DIY cloth pumpkins for my collection.
Big and small, I produce them with little effort using a variety of fabrics to match my decor. Velvet, burlap, damask & even printed fabrics make beautiful, everlasting pumpkins that are easy and economical to make. To create your own cloth pumpkins click here for my step-by-step tutorial.
I also cut the last of my garden roses and placed them in a vase along with fresh rosemary cut from my herb garden.
Bright yellow flowers enhanced my foyer, cheerily greeting my guests at the front door.
Perfect for a fall dinner party, my cloth pumpkins made a great centerpiece as well.
My tablecloth and napkins were homemade, sewn from green ticking fabric. The addition of a couple of pretty candlesticks completed my tablescape.
As a thank you gift I sewed our guests of honor a red checkered picnic blanket to match their red, white and black trailer. I included one of my favorite Sunset Magazine travel books called, Eating Up The West Coast. It’s all about the best road trips & restaurants from Southern California to Washington and includes great recipes too. This weekend my friends plan to do just that on a trailer trip up to Carmel, California. I hope the book comes in handy!
My menu included a fresh green salad, my favorite pasta recipe, Eggplant Pasta…
and as an ode to fall I baked individual Pumpkin Tarts using my throwdown winning recipe for Pumpkin Pie In The Sky.
