SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 46
Hi there! Thanks so much for joining me here today for Sundays With Celia Vol 46.
Looking Back On Sunday
With our New York dwelling son in town, I only managed one post this week, sharing the delicious Dutch Baby recipe I prepared for him one morning.
Another Visit To Sycamore Ranch Vineyard & Winery
This week we paid another visit to our wonderful local winery, Sycamore Ranch. If you missed my post about Lake Arrowhead’s best kept secret you can read all about it here.
During our previous visit we got to see the apples being picked that would be transformed into this year’s delicious hard cider.
During this visit the apples had been pressed and winemaker Richard gave us a taste of the sweet apple cider right out of the barrel. What a treat!
We also saw their latest batch of Rosé being processed.
And watched as they crushed, by hand, this year’s crop of newly harvested grapes.
Very soon they will be bottling their 2015 Estate Wine known as Altitude 4576, the exact altitude of the mountain winery. We can’t wait to return to purchase a few bottles of what will surly be another award winning, small batch wine.
First Friday In Lake Arrowhead
The 1st Friday of every month one of our very special shops here in town called The Lake House hosts a wine and cheese event where they feature a local artist. This month my bestie, the very talented Maureen Stratton, was the featured artist. If you’re in the area on a first Friday this is a fun event not to be missed.
Maureen’s beautiful works will continue to be on display at The Lake House for the next month.
The Weather It Is A Changin’
Last Sunday I was able to serve our Dutch Baby breakfast outdoors on the terrace. But the weather changed dramatically this week so I imagine that will be our last outdoor meal for awhile. We were even able to enjoy the lake, visiting our dock and taking a ride in the boat. Next week the boat will be removed from the lake and placed in winter storage.
Are you experiencing Fall in your area? Here in beautiful Lake Arrowhead our year-round weather is always about 20 degrees cooler than in the flatlands, 5,000 feet below. This is great in the summertime, as Southern California can be sweltering. But here on our mountaintop we truly experience the 4 seasons, so in the Fall we get cold much sooner than down the hill. That said, sometimes there are real advantages to living a mile high, like when it’s overcast and gloomy down below, those of us in Lake Arrowhead are truly living above the clouds. This week we were livin’ on cloud 9, literally!
But today the weather has changed dramatically and those clouds have floated ever higher and rain clouds are on the horizon. Am I ready? I guess I have no choice.
Halloween In The Hood
When we built our Lake Arrowhead home the neighborhood was filled with young families and we actually got a few trick-or-treaters. Now all the children have grown and are having their own kids. Lucky for us, one such neighbor has 5 grandchildren that visit our home every Halloween. Brad and I really find ourselves looking forward to their visit, and always make them a special Halloween treat. This year they were a family of Pirates.
Alice Was In DC This Halloween
Sadly, I only get to experience my own grandchildren’s Halloween from afar, in photos. This year my DC dwelling son and his family rocked Capitol Hill’s Wonderland.
My granddaughter is the queen of my heart!
Goodbye Halloween, Here Comes Thanksgiving
Now that Halloween is gone, don’t throw away your jack-o-lanterns without removing their stems! That’s because you can use them to make cloth pumpkins which make wonderful fall decor. And they last year-after-year! In anticipation of Thanksgiving I’m rounding out my Fall decor by making a few more cloth pumpkins with this years pumpkin stems. I also made a few for my New York son to take home with him. These cloth pumpkins are easy to construct, just follow my simple DIY tutorial. They make great Thanksgiving hostess gifts too.
I really enjoy fall decor and don’t start decorating for Christmas until just after Thanksgiving. However, I’m already seeing Christmas decorations going up in some homes around the mountain and I wonder, what’s the rush? Why not enjoy Thanksgiving and all that Fall has to offer before rushing into Christmas? In my way of thinking, waiting a little longer for Christmas makes it more special. What do you think? Let us know by taking my survey below.
Some Sunday Inspiration
In closing I wanted to share a very motivational video of a Commencement speech I ran across recently. It takes a few minutes to watch but I guarantee you’ll be inspired.
