A CAPITAL THANKSGIVING
One advantage to having grown children is that at long last, the torch has been passed to my oldest son to host Thanksgiving in his beautiful DC home. I don’t escape all the work, as he and I make a great team in the kitchen and we enjoy cooking together. But the magnificent tablescape is the work of my daughter-in-law, who is very handy in that department. So we will be enjoying a Capital Thanksgiving again this year.
Beautiful fall leaves remain on the trees, matching the array of pumpkins, gathered on an annual trip to the local pumpkin patch.
The lovely foyer is a welcome sight, as I know my grand-babies will be just around the corner, awaiting our arrival.
Having traveled from the west coast, we generally arrive at our son’s home at the cocktail hour…
where the bar is set and ready for our traditional Hendricks and Tonic.
More pumpkins adorn the living room coffee table…
and cloth pumpkins (made by yours truly) decorate a credenza.
A light appetizer of assorted cheeses, crackers and fig jam accompanies our cocktails.
A beautiful table is set in their stunning formal dining room.
My daughter-in-law is a master flower-arranger. Three lovely arrangements of white & green hydrangeas and coral colored roses line the center of the table along with golden taper candles.
The table was set with gold chargers, Lenox Eternal China, Waterford Crystal and exquisite linen napkins, a sight to behold! The sterling flatware is a family heirloom.
Not only do my son & I cook, we also employ the help of my granddaughter, who is a splendid sight in the kitchen. If I live long enough maybe one day she will be hosting our family Thanksgiving.
Back in the dining room a side table is set up to house the champagne, wine & water that will be served with dinner.
So that’s a capital Thanksgiving for you. I need to get back in the kitchen and make sure dinner gets served on time. Here’s wishing you and all the people you love a wonderful holiday. In closing, I also wish to sincerely thank you for following my blog. I am ever-so-grateful for you.
So there you have it: A CAPITAL THANKSGIVING
Thanks so much for dropping in!
