A MARCH MIRACLE IN LAKE ARROWHEAD
After a very dry winter that has threatened another drought here in Southern California we are actually experiencing a March Miracle in Lake Arrowhead. The term “March Miracle” was coined here on our mountaintop to define what often seems to occur in our weather cycle. After a period of drought, heavy rain or snow will occur in the month of March, often bringing a miraculous end to the drought. While it is only February 28th, snow came to our mountain yesterday and another much needed snowfall is expected Friday & Saturday. And although it is late in the winter season, this is the biggest snowfall we have had all season, and everyone here is delighted.
The Rosemary in my Kitchen Garden
Having anticipated an overnight snowfall, I awoke early, anxious to go see what nature had brought us. At 6:30 am my exterior clock indicated that it was humid and 30° outside.
Putting on my snow boots and a heavy coat, I ventured out to survey our property in the stillness of the early morning.
We had received about 4 inches of soft powder, and a light snow continued to fall as I enjoyed a walk in the brisk morning air.
I always delight in seeing how the snow accumulates artfully on the iron sconces that illuminate our motor-court.
And I love how the snow paints a geometric picture on the terracotta tile on the porch.
Our home is never prettier than when it is blanketed in snow.
The courtyard fountain, usually a watering hole for the local birds, is now more like a tiny ice rink.
And those same birds will have to look elsewhere for a birdbath.
Brad and I will get our exercise today shoveling snow from the terrace steps.
And it will be awhile before we enjoy our evening cocktails while relaxing in the rockers on the back terrace.
But there is a time and a season for everything. And thanks to a March Miracle in Lake Arrowhead, we will be enjoying what we hope will be a full lake this summer.
Thank you for joining me on this cold and wintery morning. I hope you are somewhere warm and cozy.
So there you have it: A MARCH MIRACLE IN LAKE ARROWHEAD
Thanks so much for dropping in!
