SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 55
Hello! Thank you for joining me for Sundays With Celia Vol 55. It’s so nice to have you here.
I’ve Had My Head In The Clouds A Lot Lately
It’s been a busy couple of travel weeks around here. Since I last published a Sundays With Celia post Brad and I have traveled to Chicago to visit our son and future daughter-in-law. On the flight to Chicago I captured what I think is a pretty amazing photograph of our airplane reflected in the clouds and surrounded by a rainbow! Pretty incredible, huh? I swear, this is not photoshopped!
In Chicago we enjoyed a fantastic visit to the amazing Restoration Hardware Gallery at the 3 Arts Club which I wrote about in this post. It was Restaurant Week while we were in Chicago so we dined for 4 days on the most delectable food. I am looking forward to telling you about our Chicago dining experiences in a future post.
We literally got the last flight out of Chicago before an epic storm blew in. It’s a little unnerving to be sitting on the plane when the view out the window looks like this. It’s hard to believe planes can take off in this kind of weather.
We sat on the runway for about an hour while a poor fellow braved the freezing cold to de-ice the plane.
The de-icing fluid dripped eerily down my window.
As we ascended, I took a video of our climb into the snowy night sky. Look closely and you can see the snow rushing by. Good news is, we made it back to California safe and sound, albeit 2 hours late. Thank you Southwest Airlines.
Another Trip – This Time to Washington, DC
We have just returned from Washington, DC where we attended birthday parties for both our Granddaughter and Grandson who were born a year and a day apart. I’ll be sharing more about their amazing party in a future post.
While in DC we also dined on some pretty incredible food as well, including dinner and Milk Bar Birthday Cake at Momofuku CCDC, award-winning Chef David Chang’s restaurant. I have to say, it was pretty much what it’s cracked up to be, including Pastry Chef Christina Tosi’s famous Crack Pie, which we also tasted.
During our DC visit we prepared a Persian Nowruz Spring Feast for dinner one evening at home. You can read all about that and snag my yummy recipes in this post.
We’ve Begun the Renovation of The House On Victoria Court
The first thing we’re tackling in the renovation of Victoria Court is the old kitchen.
The Before Kitchen
I’ve drawn inspiration for my new interior color palette from the exterior, which is a weathered-gray.
So far the kitchen has been gutted, new electrical added, and the insulation and drywall is now complete.
I’ve selected White Cabinets for the kitchen, Grecian Honed Marble Mosaic Tile for the countertops, a Bright White Subway Tile for the Backsplash, and Large 20″ Gray Hexagon Ceramic Tile for the floors. I also purchased a large collection of antique pewter from my favorite Lake Arrowhead Design resource, Bella’s, which I’ll use to accessorize the kitchen. I’m so excited with how things are coming along and will be publishing a post next week on the Kitchen progress. So stay tuned!
Celebrating A Special Birthday On Sunday
As I mentioned in this previous post, Picture Perfect Gift For Your Best Friend, my bestie Cindy recently celebrated a special birthday: you know, the kind with a zero on the end.
In honor of Cindy’s big day we had a lovely dinner party for her, hosted by our other “bestie”, Maureen. We started the evening with a pretty tray of appetizers and delicious wine.
As always, Maureen set a beautiful table.
Our bread-baking-bestie, Brenda, brought us a loaf of her delectable homemade Artisan Sourdough Bread.
Maureen’s main course was Cindy’s favorite thing to eat, Seared Scallops. She served it with a delicious Parsnip & Leek Puree and a Salad of roasted beets, pistachios and goat cheese. What a feast!
The grand finale was Cindy’s favorite cake, German Chocolate, prepared by yours truly.
A Fun Video of A Couple of Fabulous Feathered Friends
In closing today I wanted to share with you this adorable video of a very talented Cockatoo. Take the time to watch it until the end when it really gets rocking.
I hope you are enjoying a wonderful Sunday and that this little video made you smile.
So there you have it: SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 55
