THE HOUSE ON VICTORIA COURT MASTER BEDROOM RENOVATION
Hello and welcome. Today I’m excited to reveal The House On Victoria Court Master Bedroom Renovation. A beautiful, serene, comfortable and inviting Master Bedroom is so important for success in selling a home. It’s for this reason I put a lot of effort into assuring that my Master Bedrooms are places potential buyers can see themselves relaxing. But when we purchased The House On Victoria Court, the Master Bedroom was anything but what I just described. In fact, it contained only a single twin bed…
a dated chair and a chest of drawers painted with a Mexican motif. Honesty, who would ever wish to sleep in this room? It was a nightmare waiting to happen!
It was so dark and dreary that it was hard to capture these photographs, for as you can see, it was illuminated by one old, ugly light in the rafters. And, as you can see, the primary wall in the room was nothing more than raw plywood. But this is exactly the kind of diamond-in-the-rough I love to find and renovate, because the transformation can be so dramatic.
The first thing we did was refinish the original hardwood floors. Refinishing floors creates a TON of sawdust which covers every surface, so it’s best to do that before anything else. After a lot of vacuuming and dusting we covered the newly finished floors with craft paper and tackled the raw plywood wall next. I decided to use a board and baton application, creating an interesting wall with form and dimension.
We then applied a primer coat of Kilz by Rustolium. The dry, thirsty, old wood sucked the paint right up.
It then took a total of 4 coats of Behr Premium Plus Ultra paint, in my favorite color, Ultra Pure White from Home Depot, to cover the wood walls sufficiently.
I also added some additional electrical outlets, one for each side of the bed, including USB ports for charging cell phones and computers.
As you saw in the renovation of the Living Room, I like to design and construct custom furniture for my homes. For the Master Bedroom we made these simple side tables/night stands.
And we painted them in “Cool Ashes” from Behr Premium Plus Ultra.
And since low profile beds are where it’s at these days, I had my talented carpenter make me a simple wooden bed frame. I decided to place a Western Kingsized bed in this room, which, as it turns out, is a very spacious room and easily accommodates a large bed.
The hard part however, was getting the mattress upstairs, around the corner and through the bedroom door.
THAT REMINDS ME OF AN IMPORTANT DESIGN TIP: Always be sure to measure your room openings before purchasing furniture to be sure you can get new pieces into a room.
Onto the custom nightstands I placed a Brookings Table Lamp, $189.00 from Pottery Barn. I just love these lamps. They are made of iron and have a rustic zinc finish that’s perfect for the room. I placed it on top of a book left behind by the previous owners. Next to it I placed a Pine Forest scented candle in a gray cement container which I purchased from H & M Home.
So now, step inside the finished room and let me show you the transformation.
Hanging from the rafters is a beautiful new Faceted Capiz Drum Pendant Light I purchased at West Elm for $229.00. But you can buy it right now for 25% off. I dressed the bed in a 400-thread-count HemStitch Cotton Duvet set I purchased here at Target. It is so soft and luxurious that I want a set for myself. It comes in 5 colors too and is on sale now for $63.99.
The soft and cozy Tufted Gray Velvet Comforter you see at the foot of the bed is by Fieldcrest and is on sale at Target right now for $94.99. The Gray Tufted Oversize Lumbar Pillow is also on sale for $28.49 and the 2 Velvet Tufted Pillow Shams are $23.74. This collection is also available in other colors including white. I added a Faux Sheepskin Rug, also on sale at Target for $80.49.
In a corner of the room I placed a chair with a Sweater Knit Pillow from IKEA. The basket was purchased at Home Goods. Into it I placed a super soft and luxurious Oversized Bed Throw, also from Target and priced at $47.49.
And do you remember the chest of drawers from the BEFORE photos? We painted it gray, painted the knobs white, and transformed it into a thing of beauty.
Above the bureau I hung a beautiful oil painting purchased at my favorite design resource, Bella’s. There I also obtained the hobnail lamp and covered dish.
And as I always do for all my fixer-uppers, I sewed Roman Shades in a beautiful gray linen using fabric I purchased at Dorell Fabric Outlet. I always line bedroom window treatments with blackout fabric because sleeping-in is such a luxury when one is enjoying a mountain retreat.
I hope you enjoyed seeing The House On Victoria Court Master Bedroom Renovation. Oh and by the way, I sell all of my fixer-uppers turn-key, fully furnished with everything you see in these photographs. I don’t simply “stage” the homes.
So, if you or someone you know are looking for the quintessential mountain cabin in beautiful Lake Arrowhead, California, this home is now on the market. Please contact my agent, Lynne Wilson to view the home: 909-337-2080
