SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 62
Hello and welcome to Sundays With Celia Vol 62. It’s so nice to have you here!
Looking Back On Sunday
Since last we talked on a Sunday I showed you how to recover a lampshade with fabric…
and I shared How I Turned An Ugly Duckling Into A Sawn, giving you one final look at The House On Victoria Court. In this post I shared the process we went through to transform the exterior of the cottage. Use the links to visit the posts if you missed them.
What I’ve Been Up To This Week
It has been one busy week. My DC dwelling son came to town with my two adored grandchildren and we had a whirlwind few days of building sand castles at the lake…
cooking up Almond Blueberry Scones together for breakfast…
and while they were baking launched homemade parachutes off the balcony into the kitchen below. I’ll publish the yummy scone recipe next week.
We also had a delicious dinner of Vietnamese BBQ’d Chicken, an Herbed Salad & Jasmine Rice down on the dock…
and we visited our local winery, Sycamore Ranch Vineyard & Winery for a tasting, and to pick up 3 cases of their latest bottling of hard cider. We are going to put a bottle of Sycamore’s Razzleberry Raspberry Cider in the Welcome Baskets we are preparing for my Chicago-Dwelling son’s upcoming wedding.
And speaking of the wedding, it is a short 6 weeks away! So this week I went to my hairdresser to do a practice run on my mother-of-the-groom wedding hair. What do you think?
I also chalk-painted the frames that we are going to use for signs at the wedding.
And I worked on placing custom labels on the wine that we will serve at the wedding.
Bachelorette Weekend In Boston
Meanwhile, my future daughter-in-law was enjoying a fun Bachelorette Weekend with her bridesmaids in Boston. They had High Tea…
went paddling on the Charles River and had what looked like a really fabulous weekend together. Would you believe there are 2 Physicians and 2 Attorneys in this group? I’m proud of these very accomplished women.
Going To The Cinema On Sunday
About 15 years ago on a trip to Europe we went to see the musical Mamma Mia in a theater in London’s West End. At the time we had no idea we were about to see such a foot stomping, dancing in the aisles, sing-along production that wowed the packed house with an amazing performance of Abba’s greatest hits woven into a very inventive story line. Since then it has become the 7th longest-running show in West End history. We loved every minute of that performance and I can see myself there in my mind’s-eye as though it were yesterday. It was one of those amazing experiences in life that I will never forget.
So, when the movie rendition of the Broadway hit first came out in theaters in 2008 Brad and I rushed to see it. This weekend the sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, debuted, and again, we couldn’t wait to see it. I purchased advanced tickets and gave them to Brad as one of his birthday presents. Last night we went to see it, and I’m sure I’ll be repeating the entire score in my head for the next month. Talk about an earworm! I’ve got stuck-song-syndrome big time! Watch the preview below and you’ll see what I mean.

But that’s not the only movie we saw this week that was motivated by a past travel experience. You may recall that last year I told you about our stay at the Ritz Carlton in Budapest. While there we met and enjoyed spending time with the Executive Producer and Director of a Ron Howard and Brian Grazer movie being shot in Budapest. The movie they were filming at the time was called The Spy Who Dumped Me. Well the movie came out this week so of course we had to go see it. Frankly we weren’t expecting much more than another Austin Powers type of spoof on The Spy Who Loved Me. As it turns out it was nothing of the sort, but was rather a very entertaining, action-packed comedy with a little romance wrapped up in it. The acting by stars Mila Kunis, Kate McNinnon and Justin Theroux was quite impressive. While it’s not the type of film that I normally run out to see, I actually enjoyed this one quite a bit and would recommend it for a lighthearted evening out.
Travel & Leisure Magazine’s World’s Best Awards
So speaking of traveling, the latest edition of Travel & Leisure magazine arrived in my mailbox this week and it contains “The World’s Best Awards for 2018”. I always like to review the list to see how many of the places mentioned I have experienced. This year Vancouver’s Rosewood Hotel Georgia was ranked the Number 1 Hotel in all of Canada. I stayed there last year after a cruise celebrating my father’s 90th birthday. You can read all about it in this post.
Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection was ranked the Number 1 River Cruise Line. I was not surprised, as it’s my favorite too! You can read my blog posts about 2 of their magnificent river boats in this post: SAIL AWAY WITH ME ON UNIWORLD’S S.S. ANTOINETTE
and in this post: SAIL AWAY WITH ME ON UNIWORLD’S S.S. MARIA THERESA.
