A THANKSGIVING TO REMEMBER
Hello and welcome to A Thanksgiving To Remember. If you caught last week’s edition of Sundays With Celia you may recall that I mentioned we won’t be celebrating Thanksgiving with my DC dwelling son and his family this year. So, I find myself getting a little nostalgic and looking back to the beautiful Thanksgiving we shared at his home last year.
Sometimes the flight path from Ontario, CA to Washington, DC goes right over our hometown of Lake Arrowhead. Sure enough on this trip I was able to look right down and catch a bird’s-eye-glimpse of our home and dock as we flew by.
It’s always so nice to be at my son’s home in the fall. I love his pumpkin display on the porch, gathered on an annual visit to the local pumpkin patch with my grandchildren.
Stepping inside it’s always fun to see the little vignette of the cloth pumpkins I’ve given them.
Our early morning cross-country flight always gets us there just in time for cocktails, which are a welcome sight after a long day of travel.
Who wouldn’t want to settle down with a frosty glass of Cranberry Martinis?
A beautiful, tall bouquet of flowers adorns the bar.
The enchanting dining table awaits the feast that will soon be enjoyed around it…
while crystal chandeliers twinkle above.
There is no shortage of flowers on the table, which is set with Lenox China, Waterford Lismore Crystal, Heirloom Silverware, and lovely linens.
An assortment of gourds and miniature pumpkins compliment the flower arrangements that consist of white hydrangeas, highlighted by assorted flowers in lovely fall colors.
Golden taper candles complete the look.
And there’s my spot! What a pleasure it is to be a guest at my kid’s table. After decades of hosting Thanksgiving dinners in my home, it really is fun to be able to pass the torch, especially when I have kids that do such a great job of it.
I just love the Turkey Placecards by Caspari. You can find yours in a set of 16 by clicking here.
My son can be found in the kitchen where he’s putting the finishing touches on his yummy Butternut Squash Soup.
The candles are lit and everyone is called to the table, where delicious wine is also being poured.
The soup is accompanied by crunchy homemade croutons.
My son is a master at carving the turkey, and he then displays it beautifully, garnishing it with fresh sage and thyme.
Eventually it’s time for dessert. A dear friend treated us all to this amazing homemade carrot cake and and my NY dwelling daughter-in-law made an assortment of delicious pies. What an ending to a most marvelous meal!
It truly was a Thanksgiving to remember. I hope you have a Thanksgiving to remember as well!
Oh and by the way, in case you (like me) aren’t a master of turkey carving check out this video on how to do it. They make it look so easy…
So there you have it: A THANKSGIVING TO REMEMBER
