10 GIFTS FOR THE NEW PARENTS IN YOUR LIFE
Is there something in the water? Or am I just at a stage in my life when the children of so many of my friends are having babies? And not only that, my children’s friends, kids I watched grow up, are now having babies of their own! I can’t tell you how many holiday cards I received this year that feature new babies. So at this time of giving I’ve been considering what I might get for not just the new babies in my life, but what I might give to their parents. After all, they are the ones who really deserve a gift! So today I bring you:
10 GIFTS FOR THE NEW PARENTS IN YOUR LIFE
As those of us who are parents know, having a baby changes everything. Instead of date nights and a packed social calendar, parents of a newborn just hope to nail down a sleeping and feeding schedule for their baby, and that schedule seldom allows time for themselves. Navigating new parenthood can be a herculean task, and more than ever, new parents need the support of friends and family. So consider giving them some thoughtful gifts to help ease their transition from childless to diapers, naps, and onesies.
1. Offer To Babysit
Having a new baby in the house can be so overwhelming. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is offer your babysitting services and give Mom and Dad a night off. Consider surprising them with a gift basket that includes movie tickets and a certificate for babysitting services.
2. Give Them A Meal Subscription Service
Many new parents struggle to make meals and take care of their baby at the same time, while often jugging full time jobs as well. So, consider buying them a meal subscription service. It can solve the problem of what to cook each night for stressed-out parents. Plus, it’ll give your friends a fun activity to do together beyond bonding with their new baby. Alternatively, you could invite them over to your house with their baby for a celebratory dinner party!
3. An Amazing Non-Toxic Travel Crib & Bassinet
Helping to develop consistent sleeping habits is important for the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of a baby, and thus, the parents too. And a baby’s crib is the foundation for building those healthy sleeping habits. But doing that on the go isn’t always easy because baby gear is often very cumbersome. But I discovered a company that makes a terrific, safe, non-toxic, crib and bassinet for on-the-go parents that is affordable, attractive, and airport, baby and parent friendly.
4. An Essential Oil Diffuser
Now that there’s a little one in the picture, candles are a dangerous item to have in a new parents’ home. If your friends love candles but don’t want to take the risk of having them in the house, give them the gift of relaxing aromatherapy with a beautiful essential oil diffuser. And, don’t forget to pick up some essential oils to go with their diffuser.
5. Letters To My Baby
This is the COOLEST BOOK! It prompts parents to write letters to their baby, which not only helps record special childhood memories, but it also serves as an amazing gift to give to their child later in life. After that little baby has grown up and left the nest, they will be able to revisit their childhood through their parents’ eyes.
6. Portachair Harness
Great for travel, dining out, or visiting grandparents, this baby harness makes feeding on the go a snap.By gifting them a portachair harness, you’re gifting them the ability to turn any chair into a safe, baby-friendly one.
7. Cute Decor for Baby’s Nursery
If you’re attending a baby shower for the parents-to-be and need a gift beyond the ordinary, consider gifting something a little bit more creative. For example, you could create some DIY art that matches the theme of their baby’s nursery. Here’s a link to my DIY tutorial on how to create inexpensive wall art. It could end up being a very special and meaningful keepsake.
8. Constellation Print
For parents who love the stars, surprise them with a snapshot of the sky and constellations that were present the day their baby was born. It’s an unexpected and unique keepsake gift for the proud parents.
9. Baby First Aid Class
For the parents who have everything, give them the gift of preparedness with a baby first aid class that covers skills like how to care for wounds and what to do when your child is having respiratory issues. Knowledge is power, and they’ll be grateful for these life-saving emergency skills.
10. A Museum Pass
A family pass to a museum is a great gift for the family that prefers experiences over material things. Or if they are more of the outdoorsy type consider gifting them a pass to the national parks so they can enjoy free entry for the year.
As a grandparent I know how special a new bundle of joy is, and what an exciting time it is for everyone, especially during the holidays. I hope this list of 10 gifts for the new parents in your life will be helpful, and that your friends will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
