WHAT WINTER AT MY HOUSE LOOKS LIKE
OK, so get on your warm winter gear and come take a walk with me, ’cause I’m about to show you what winter at my house looks like. When I woke up yesterday morning I couldn’t wait to slip on my winter boots, and my heaviest jacket, and my warmest woolen mittens in order to take a walk to survey my property. One of the biggest winter storms to hit our area in several years had barreled down on us the night before. So I slipped out the side door onto the motor court to find icicles hanging off the light fixtures.
My favorite green bench on the back porch had a dusting of snow, and the rosemary bush I depend on for so many recipes was nearly buried in snow.
It’s a good thing my husband had the forethought to open the motor-court gate, lest it too would have been buried shut.
Looking across the way to the entry courtyard, the fountain was still chugging away through its frozen mantel.
And all that was left of my pretty iron chair was a snow-covered seat.
Within the very few minutes that it took me to trudge out to the front of the house the weather changed abruptly, bringing with it a howling wind, bitter cold and a powdery snowfall.
Then within a few more minutes it was a bit brighter again.
My poor cyprus trees look like they belong in Whoville. Thankfully they always spring back.
But I do love how beautiful the birch tress look in winter. When they lose their leaves they reveal things that are hidden other times of the year.
So now let me trudge my way through the snowy front yard so we can go check out the rear yard.
This is my rear covered loggia. It is here that I stood 4 days ago and took a video as the storm first arrived.
Here’s that first video…
And here’s the 2nd video of what it looked like yesterday morning, 3 days later.
Looks like it’ll be awhile before we’ll be dining alfresco…
or having cocktails on the terrace off the bar, our favorite spot in summer.
My greenhouse will not be nurturing any new seedlings for awhile either.
And it will be a few months until tomato vines find their way up my iron topiaries.
Well, Brad’s doing his best to clear the snow but it just keeps coming! Not sure we are going to be able to keep up with it. Wherever you are I hope you are safe and warm.
So there you have it: WHAT WINTER AT MY HOUSE LOOKS LIKE
