Happy Valentine’s Day!
I hope you enjoyed a lovely week full of love and sweet things because after-all, it was the week of Valentine’s Day. I image there are those that don’t find much joy on Valentine’s Day. Maybe they have lost someone they loved, or they haven’t yet found that special someone. Or, maybe they consider it just another commercialized holiday. But the way I look at it, we all need a little love in our lives, so why not celebrate love at least one day out of the year? In my case it’s a chance to thank my husband for 27 years of marriage.
Looking Back On Sunday
So in honor of Valentine’s Day on the blog this week I took a look back at my sons recent wedding. They exchanged their vows here in our Lake Arrowhead home last September. It was a beautiful, warm (but not too warm) summer evening when they said their I do’s.
Following the ceremony we feasted on a magnificent meal under the stars in our forested backyard.
After dinner the kids wanted nothing more than to have their guests dance the night away, and that they did.
So, to keep everyone going, as a late-night-snack we set up an incredible S’mores Bar. I showed you that epic S’mores Bar in my post this week. Super Proud of My DC Dwelling Son On Sunday
You guys hear me talk about my DC dwelling son on a regular basis. He is the CEO of a media firm that just celebrated their 10 year anniversary. His company does many things for their clients, including producing videos for the web. Well, they just won the GOLD at the AVA Digital Awards for Web-Based Production and Short Form Web Video! Here’s the video that brought them home the gold…
The video was done for a client. But I’m wondering, what do you think about the subject of tipping? Would you rather pay more for your food in a restaurant than pay a 15% to 25% tip?
Getting Really Wet On Sunday
After a week of snowfall that dumped about 2 feet of lovely white powder on Lake Arrowhead, we are now experiencing torrential rainfall. In fact, we are breaking records for the amount of rainfall plummeting our area. I guess Mother Nature is determined to fill up our lake, which suffered from low levels during years of drought. Everyone here is simply delighted to kiss the drought goodbye.
Watching British Royals On Sunday
Have you been watching Season 3 of Victoria Sunday evenings on PBS?
I have and I simply love it!
Ever since my father took me to London for the first time at age 11 I have been hooked on all things British. And although I have traveled to London countless times since, for some reason I have never toured Kensington Palace. That is about to change on my upcoming visit to the British Isles.
Kensington Palace is where Queen Victoria was born and grew up. She moved into Buckingham Palace as an adult and was the first Royal to reside there. After she vacated Kensington Palace lesser Royals moved in. As you can see in the diagram below, the palace is divided up into what are officially called apartments, but are really more like grand terrace houses. Diana, Princess of Wales, occupied apartments in the north-west part of the palace from 1981 until her death in 1997. This is where she raised her two son’s, William & Harry.
Today Kensington Palace is still the home of William and his bride and future Queen of England, Kate. After Harry and Megan married they moved into tiny, two-bedroom, Nottingham Cottage seen below, which had been Harry’s bachelor pad.
However, they will reportedly be moving, or have moved, into Frogmore Cottage on the grounds of the Windsor Estate, about 30 miles from London. Frogmore Cottage is near Frogmore House, where Meghan and Harry held their evening wedding reception hosted by Harry’s father, Prince Charles.

I’m excited about my upcoming visit to Kensington Palace. I plan to have tea in the Orangery, said to be one of the best places in the world for High Tea. Maybe I’ll even have the good fortune to spot a Royal during my visit. I understand William and Kate have been known to occasionally mingle with visitors.
In addition to Kensington Palace and the homes on the Windsor Estate, the British Royal family owns many homes and palaces across the United Kingdom. I recently discovered this video which gives us a look at each one. It’s fascinating to see how and where they live.
