OUR AWESOME VACATION RENTAL IN PALMETTO BLUFF
Hi There! I’m so excited to tell you about our awesome vacation rental in Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina. It’s where we have just returned from enjoying a week’s retreat with my DC dwelling son and my wonderful 2 grandchildren. The kiddos had their winter break from school, so my son invited us to join them for some family time together.
Palmetto Bluff is a place our family has visited frequently. My son takes annual company retreats there, and brings the family along to enjoy all the wonderful amenities. He estimated that this was their 9th visit to Palmetto Bluff.
Brad and I have visited several times as well. In fact, I’ve shared those visits with you in these posts…
- THE LOVELY LOWCOUNTRY HOMES OF PALMETTO BLUFF
- THE INN AT PALMETTO BLUFF
- A TOUR OF THE 2014 SOUTHERN LIVING IDEA HOUSE
And while I plan to share more vacation photos with you in another upcoming post, I wanted to start by giving you a tour of the awesome rental property we occupied last week.
My son discovered the home on VRBO.com here. It is ideally located in the heart of Wilson Village, within walking distance to the resort, restaurants, recreation facilities and parks. I liked that it was on a single-loaded street with a greenbelt across the street that overlooked the river. It felt very private, tranquil and quiet.
It was so nice to escape Lake Arrowhead’s cold and relentless snow and rain, and arrive in South Carolina where they were enjoying temperatures in the low 70s. Homes in Palmetto Bluff are primarily designed in what is termed “Lowcountry Style” that typically will include large porches, low hanging metal roofs, ceiling fans and porch swings.
We took full advantage of the great weather to enjoy leisurely evenings with cocktails on the porch, or our morning coffee and a good book while the kids played on the grass across the street.
The large, wrap-around front porch encompassed 3/4 of the front of the house. One third of the porch was a screened in dining area where meals can be enjoyed on the lovely, large dining table.
Because of the abundance of oyster shells in the area, the patio flooring was actually cement with crushed oyster shell aggregate. I believe they call this Tabby Shell Concrete.
Double French doors off of the front porch lead into a great room. I love the transom windows above the French Doors.
On one side of the room is the sitting area with a working fireplace. The white walls were paneled in shiplap and large beams in the ceiling served to define each area of the large room. The beams subtilely divided the space into a sitting area, an entry area, and a dining area, as you will see in the following photos.
On the other side is the dining area. The attractive chandelier was made of white sea shells.
And then the room opened up into the kitchen. The home has just recently been renovated so everything was new and fresh. I got the impression that in the renovation they retained the original hardwood floors and simply painted them white.
The kitchen, with its white cabinets and marble countertops continued the all-white theme.
All of the appliances were Viking and a dream to cook on, just like I have at home.
As we like to do when we travel and are staying put for awhile, we purchased flowers to brighten up the space.
Adjacent to the kitchen island was another comfortable sitting area.
The Master Bedroom, which Brad and I occupied, was located on the main floor of the 2 story home. It had a small sitting area adjacent to the king sized bed. There was also a large walk-in closet with great builtins where we unpacked our suitcases and made ourselves at home.
The Master Bathroom was generously sized with 2 attractive and large pedestal sinks, a water closet, a large shower with rain shower-head and a large soaking tub.
The 2nd Floor…
Now let’s head on upstairs and I’ll show you the 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom located up there.
There is what could be considered a 2nd Master Bedroom upstairs with a second Kind Sized bed.
The 1 upstairs bathroom shares with the kids’ room, but is also spacious and luxurious, with marble countertops and high-end fixtures.
Our two grandkids occupied the twin bedroom. The owners have 2 daughters so the cute pink bedroom is outfitted for girls, but my grandson didn’t seem to mind. My granddaughter was delighted with the doll house and other fine toys available for her to enjoy.
We had a truly fantastic time in Palmetto Bluff. This community is like Mayberry on steroids. It has every amenity you could ask for. It’s beautiful, charming, safe, quiet and relaxing. Plus, it’s a short 35 minutes from Savannah, Georgia so it’s easy to get to by air from anywhere.
Stay tuned and I’ll be sharing much more of our visit to Palmetto Bluff in my next post. I’ll show you the fantastic meals we prepared in that beautiful kitchen, I’ll take you with us to the lovely restaurants in Palmetto Bluff, you’ll go fishing with us in an electric Duffy, I’ll show you the lovely homes of PB from the water perspective, and I’ll even take you bowling with us. Yes, Palmetto Bluff has what I am sure is one of the most chic bowling alleys in the country!
