SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 80

Hello and welcome to Sundays With Celia Vol 80. I hope your Sunday is a relaxing one. As you’ll learn in this blog post, Brad and I have been doing a lot of traveling lately. I captured the photo below of Brad waiting in front of our son’s DC home at 4am for our Uber ride to the airport earlier this week. So I’m a bit travel weary and happy to be home.

Donut Grow Up Birthday Party

As I mentioned, we have just returned from a quick trip to Washington, DC. We were there to celebrate the birthdays of both our Granddaughter…

and Grandson, who were born a year and a day apart.

It was very convenient of them to be born so close together, making for the consolidation of both travel and birthday parties. The kids invited all of their classmates to a “Donut Grow Up” Pajama Party.

In addition to all the Krispy Kreme donuts one could consume, there was fruit salad…

and bagels with cream cheese for the taking, at this morning birthday extravaganza that took place in the great hall of the kids’ school.

Thank goodness for the big space that accommodated the 65+ guests, and housed the bounce house with slide…

two face-painting stations…

an arts & crafts station…

and lots of mats for the kids to tumble around and burn off all that sugar-charged energy.

There were party hats and cute donut cookie favors for all. And the party was a rousing success!

And Speaking of Birthdays…

My father has a birthday coming up as well. At 92 years of age it’s difficult to come up with gift ideas for him, but this year I’ve purchased him something that I think he will actually get some real benefit from. It’s an essential oil diffuser and some essential oils to go with it.

You see, my dad suffers from nagging congestion and has not been able to find relief. I have recently learned that essential oils, peppermint in particular, can provide a lot of relief for people suffering from colds, congestion and allergies.

I did a lot of checking into what might be the best essential oils diffuser and decided on the ASAKUKI brand for several reasons. ASAKUKI originated in Japan, and is made by a company that focuses on designing creative household items that make for a better life. That sounded good to me. This diffuser functions as a humidifier as well. Plus the word “ASAKUKI” comes from the Japanese word meaning “air in the morning”. How nice is that? So, I’m hoping this “morning air” will be helpful to my dear old dad. And I think I’m going to get one for myself while I’m at it.

A Wedding Snippet On Sunday – Before The 1st Look

As I mentioned last Sunday, I have so much I want to share of my son’s recent wedding, celebrated here in Lake Arrowhead. So I’ve decided to share little snippets of it each week right here on Sundays With Celia. This Sunday I thought I’d dedicate to the groom, my son Taylor.

Weddings, deservedly so, revolve mostly around the beautiful bride, so today I thought I’d dedicate some time to sharing with you photos of the groom and groomsmen. On wedding day Taylor’s groomsmen gathered at the vacation rental home where the best man, my oldest son, was staying.

The guys got together for a round of champagne and some celebratory toasts prior to Taylor & Ann’s “First Look”.

My grandson, the Ring Bearer, also got in on the fun.

They posed for some serious photos…

and some not-so-serious photos, all the while looking very handsome.

Eventually the group moved to the agreed upon rendezvous spot where Taylor would get the “first look” of his beautiful bride Ann.

Talking Scarves on Sunday

I saw an American flag scarf on Pinterest years ago and ever since I’ve wanted one. Well this week I ran across one here and I snapped it up.

I always thought it would be fun to have an American Flag scarf to wear on the 4th of July. Well now I have one and you can have one too by clicking here.

In fact, I’m a scarf lover, and I have a large collection of them in my wardrobe. I try to keep them folded and organized in color groupings by housing them in clear acrylic stackable sweater bins that I got at The Container Store. You can get some here.

These bins have really helped me to keep my scarves organized and easily accessible when I’m trying to quickly accessorize an outfit. The cotton and cashmere scarves lay loose in the bins…

while I keep the silk scarves in plastic sleeves. This way I can file through them quickly to find the one I want to wear and it protects them at the same time. I’m lucky that I have a nice collection of Hermes silk scarves, all of them gifts from my father.

You see, when I was growing up my dad traveled a great deal, and was gone for months at a time to Europe and the Middle East. He was often too busy to buy me a gift, so he would purchase me Hermes scarves from the Duty Free shops in the airports on his way home. As a child I didn’t appreciate them, but I sure do now. They are real works of art. If you ever have a chance to visit a Hermes store or pop into their website it’s a real visual treat.

Did You Spring Forward Last Night?

At 2am this morning we changed to daylight savings time. Did you remember to move your clock forward an hour if you live in a state, like I do, that subscribes to this practice? I always find it a nuisance and difficult to adjust to, and wish California would stop the practice. What is your opinion on the subject?

Looking Back On Sunday

In case you missed it I wanted to give you a little peak at my post from earlier this week. I gave you a tour of our awesome vacation rental in Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina.

Prior to our quick trip to DC we actually spent a week in Palmetto Bluff, the magnificent lowcountry resort on the coast of South Carolina, near Hilton Head, and not far from Savannah, Georgia.
