SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 91
Hello and welcome to Sundays With Celia Vol 91. I hope you are having a really relaxing and fun filled Labor Day weekend. To tell you the truth, this holiday weekend kinda snuck up on Brad and I, so we didn’t really make any special plans. We do have a house guest arriving Monday, so I’m having a small dinner gathering that night. But other than that we aren’t doing anything special. Living in a resort community it gets rather crowded around town on holiday weekends, so we decided to stay home and get things done around the house.
Taking A Look Back On Sunday
Did you see the fun Lemon Meringue Pie in a Jar I prepared last week for a picnic at our local Jazz Festival? You still have time to prepare it as a fun and easy-to-serve Labor Day dessert. Click here for the recipe.
Speaking of Cooking…
Not too long ago I shared with you my yummy recipe for Chicken and Spinach Cannelloni.
Well this week I decided to change it up a bit and instead of making Cannelloni I used the same recipe but I made Chicken and Spinach Stuffed Shells. To make it just follow the Cannelloni recipe by clicking here, except stuff the filling into large, cooked pasta shells instead. Just follow the cooking instructions on the box of shells, stuff them with my Chicken and Spinach filling, add the Béchamel Sauce and the Tomato Sauce, and you’ll have a delicious baked pasta dish.
This Week’s Progress on my Big Bear Cabin Renovation
We’ve been continuing to work on the Master Bathroom this week, as we turned our attention to the sink area. This is what the sink looked like when my clients purchased the property. It had the smallest sink I’ve ever seen, installed into an antique piece of furniture that was falling apart. The mirror was so low it was completely unusable. So, we disposed of this ridiculous fixture. We also got rid of the track lighting and the Christmas garland. HALLELUJAH!
THE BEFORE
Instead we turned to a photo I had seen over on Remodelista.com of a bathroom sink that had been installed into a custom built vanity. My clients thought something similar would be perfect for their space.
THE INSPIRATION (Image Via)
So we retextured the wall, added two wall sconces, installed a wall mounted faucet, and now we will build our own custom vanity, into which we will install an apron-front sink.
IN PROGRESS
The sconces are called Marisa 1-Light Wallchiere from All Modern and are on sale right now for $54.99. Get them by clicking here. The faucet is a Kingston Brass, Heritage Oil Rubbed Bronze 2-handle Widespread Bathroom Sink Faucet from Lowe’s. It costs $186.00, plus you can get a 1% rebate if you are a member of Rakuten.
And here’s a little reminder of what the adjacent shower area used to look like…
and what it looks like now.
Stay tuned for much more of my latest renovation coming to the blog weekly.
La Jolla on a Sunday Afternoon
Those of us who live in Southern California are very fortunate to have a great number of beautiful coastal cities to explore within a short distance. In fact, our coastline is known as the the California Riviera. I live in the mountains yet I can be at the seashore in less than 2 hours. People here like to boast that in California you can snow ski in the morning and surf in the afternoon, all in the same day. Well, there’s no better time than a long holiday weekend than to take a drive to the ocean, and that’s exactly what Brad and I did recently when we made a day trip down to the quaint and historic oceanside village of La Jolla.
Located just north of San Diego, La Jolla has one of the most beautiful and alluring coastlines to be found anywhere. We strolled along the beach where seals were sunbathing, unperturbed by nearby beachgoers. If you look closely in the photo below you can even see a baby seal nursing from its mother.
Just a block off the beach on the bluff above you’ll find the historic “Pink Lady” La Valencia Hotel, a hospitality classic since 1926. A rather taxing hike up a steep hill took us to the hotel just in time for the cocktail hour.
Stepping inside the beautiful Spanish style hotel lobby I was struck by the lovely flower arrangement.
Just off the lobby is the intricately decorated Lobby Bar.
But on a beautiful summer afternoon we found our way to the outdoor terrace, which had a stunning view of the hotel pool and La Jolla Cove below.
What an amazing spot to sit and linger over a refreshing cocktail.
I hope you enjoy a lovely long weekend. In fact, I’d love to hear what you’re up to so please leave me a comment below and tell me how you’re spending Labor Day. CHEERS!
So there you have it: SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 91
