SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 96
Hello there! Thank you for joining me for Sundays With Celia Vol 96. Did you remember to set your clocks back one hour last night, that is if you live in a state that practices Daylight Savings Time? While it affords us an extra hour of sleep, it also makes the days shorter, something I don’t look forward to. I’m also just warming up to the idea that colder weather comes with Fall, as evidenced by the fact that the fountain in our yard is now frozen.
Looking Back On Sunday
Shorter days gives us less time to enjoy the outdoors, making dining alfresco less desirable, as discussed in my latest post, UPGRADE YOUR ALFRESCO DINING EXPERIENCE AT HOME. If you missed the post click here for all my outdoor dining ideas, and start planning your outdoor space now for next Spring.
What I Cooked This Week
My family loves my Homemade Granola, so this week I prepared a batch (it’s a giant recipe) to send as care-packages to all my east-coast dwelling sons. Nothing like a little comfort food from mom, right?
This recipe is not only loved by my family and friends, it’s also a very popular recipe on this blog. If you haven’t already made it, click here for the yummy recipe.
Homemade Halloween Treats
We don’t get very many Trick-or-Treaters in our gated, Lake Arrowhead neighborhood. In fact, each year we get exactly 5. Those 5 happen to be the adorable 5 children who live across the street.
Brad and I look forward to their visit so each year I try to dream up a special treat to give them. This year I was inspired by a recipe I saw in the October issue of Southern Living Magazine for a Sweet and Salty Autumn Snack Mix. So as usual, I modified the recipe to make it my own and cooked up a big batch. Stay tuned and I’ll share the recipe with you next week.
What made this snack mix extra special was how it was served up in large waffle cones.
I filled waffle cones with the snack mix, placed them in cellophane bags, and tied them up with orange ribbon.
I’m pretty sure our neighbor kids thought they were pretty cool. And I thought their costumes, like this darling gray fox costume, was pretty cool too.
Trick-or-Treating in DC
My favorite Trick-or-Treaters unfortunately don’t live in my neighborhood. They happen to be my two grandchildren who reside 3,000 miles away in Washington, DC. Therefore, I have yet to be there on Halloween to share the holiday with them. Instead I send them Halloween goodies from California so they know I’m thinking of them. This year I selected mostly non-candy treats from Target, arranged them in a Jack-O-Lantern bucket, and sent them off to DC.
Fortunately my son sends me photos of his kids so I can enjoy them vicariously here in Southern California. This year my granddaughter was a Princess. I love how her costume and jewelry matched her beautiful blue eyes.
My grandson was a T-Rex Dinosaur. Call me out of the loop but I’ve never seen these inflatable costumes before now. They are inflated by a battery operated fan which inflates the costume while keeping its occupant cool. Ingenious!
Another Sneak-Peek At My Big Bear Lake House Renovation
As you know if you follow along here regularly, I am renovating a home in Big Bear Lake for a client. It has been keeping me VERY busy, and thus, it has impacted my attention to this blog. We will be finishing the project in the next few weeks, at which time I’ll be sharing a whole lot more of our dramatic transformation of this home. In the meantime here are a few pics of the Master Bathroom, almost ready for its closeup.
