HOW TO PLAN A FUN ANNIVERSARY SURPRISE FOR YOUR SWEETHEART

Hi there! Brad and I were married two days after Christmas. It was a lovely, exciting time of year for a wedding, but what we’ve found over the course of the past 24 years of marriage is that it’s practically impossible to sneak away and celebrate during that busy time of year. So, around about the month of June we start to look for ways to celebrate our belated anniversary. I’ve been giving a lot of thought lately to how we could celebrate nearly a quarter century of marriage, and thought I’d share some of my ideas for how to plan a fun anniversary surprise for your sweetheart.

Plan Fun Anniversary Surprises for Your Sweetheart

Whether you’re celebrating your first anniversary or your 25th, taking the time to plan it out and make it special is the best way to keep the romance alive in a relationship. Pay homage to all the things you’ve gone through and all the wonderful memories you’ve created with your partner by planning an anniversary to remember, filled with loving surprises sure to show that special guy or gal just how much you care.

Plan a Picnic

Brad and I have been doing a lot of traveling this year so we thought we keep this year’s anniversary celebration more low key and not break the bank doing it. For all you anniversary couples on a budget, don’t think that limited funds make it impossible for you to celebrate the occasion with the fanfare it’s definitely due. Instead of heading out for dinner at an expensive restaurant, plan a romantic evening in, or take a different spin on dinner by planning a special picnic for two. As we’re in the midst of spring and soon to be summer, you can take advantage of the warm evenings by heading out to enjoy your yard, or take your picnic to a local winery like we did recently.

Spread a blanket in the grass and pull out all the fixings for a fun cheese and charcuterie board from MurraysCheese.com.  Then, spend the evening basking in the warmth of your love and the outdoor air.

Are you in a climate that makes a summer picnic less than ideal? Or perhaps your anniversary is in the dead of winter like ours. In that case move the picnic inside. Push the furniture to the side, queue up some nature videos (Planet Earth is a personal favorite), and use your imaginations to pretend you’re in the great outdoors while in the comfort of your own home. And if you are inside, pull out all the stops and make his favorite meal.

Stick to Traditions

Coming up with sentimental presents can be tough. Sometimes the best thing you can do is stick to tradition. Use a site like Gifts.com that offers anniversary gift ideas that pay tribute to the traditions dependent on the anniversary you’re actually celebrating. For example, a fifth anniversary is traditionally celebrated with gifts of wood, so a wooden clock for him or a gorgeous personalized jewelry box for her could do the trick. There’s an extra sense of romance when you follow the love language of yore, and finding practical items that your honey can use daily while thinking of you is the perfect romantic gesture.

Recreate Your First Date

Harken back to the romantic beginnings of your relationship and put together the perfect recreation of your first date. If you have moved and can’t go to the same restaurant or venue you originally attended, try to recreate the meal on your own at home and turn your dining room into a restaurant fit for romance.

Plan a Special Trip

Kids and work often get in the way of quality time together, and sometimes that’s all we need to reconnect with our sweethearts. To make this happen, sometimes it’s essential to get away. If that sounds like something you and your honey are in desperate need of, plan a special trip for your anniversary that will give you the chance to escape life’s stresses and spend time focusing on each other – truly what an anniversary should be all about. If you’re planning last minute, use Kayak.com to find great deals on luxury resorts, airline travel or cruises.

If you can’t find a babysitter for more than one night, don’t hesitate to plan a staycation in a local hotel. Once there, take advantage of all of the amenities and bask in the relaxation a mini vacation affords. Once you’ve had your massage treatments, eaten at the special restaurant across the street, and headed back to your hotel room, get in those cozy, plush robes and rent some fun movies, making a pact not to leave your bed until check out time. Staying in a hotel brings out the young traveler in all of us, and it could be just the rejuvenating thing to spark some romance in your relationship.

Our anniversary will soon reach the HALF-A-CENTURY mark, and at our age traveling has become somewhat of a struggle; therefore, your suggestions of how to celebrate it home will come in very handy. A cruise also sounds good.

  • Half a century takes the cake! You now have us all beat! Congratulations!

I’ve been wanting to get a cheese board for parties I host, but I never know where to look. After reading this blog, I spent a long time browsing Murray’s Cheeses. They have an awesome selection of interesting cheeses from all over the world. I will definitely be buying from them next time I host an event.

  • Did you know that Murray’s Cheese is 76 years old so they know a thing or two about cheese. I learned about them when I had a cheese selection as a snack recently on a airplane of all things. You will not be disappointed.
