COME SEE BEDROOM RENO NUMBER 3
Welcome! Please come see bedroom reno number 3 in The House On Cottage Grove. It’s right up there on the 3rd floor where the pretty dormer windows are.
So first, let me show you what bedroom number 3 looked like when I purchased The House On Cottage Grove. The previous owners called it The Sunflower Room for obvious reasons. I call it “sunflower overload!”
So the first thing we did was to get rid of all that wallpaper. We then re-mudded the stucco walls to give them a nicer finish.
We also added new trim around the windows and doors.
And then the room got a fresh coat of Natural Almond by Behr Premium Plus Ultra Paint in Satin.
Next we added beadboard on a couple of walls along with new baseboard. The original hardwood floors were refinished as well, then covered to protect them.
In designing this bedroom I had a teenage girl in mind. So when I went shopping for fabric and found this beautiful floral called Juliet from Waverly, I snapped it up along with a bright solid yellow fabric for contrast.
Then I began to sew, making a duvet cover, throw pillows and curtains for this feminine, girly room.
The forested view out of this window is absolutely breathtaking.
The built-in bureau got painted…
and a vintage needlework purse found a place on a tree branch hook next to the closet.
And as I mentioned in my last reno post, The House On Cottage Grove was filled with beautiful embroidered linens when I purchased the home. They were mostly just stuffed in various drawers throughout the house. I found this sweet pink floral tea towel and decided it would make a very cute little pillow.
I also rescued an old gold wicker chair that had been left behind by the previous owners.
I gave it coat of fresh green paint…
and covered the old cushion with the bright yellow fabric. Now the pretty embroidered pillow sits happily on its new/old wicker chair.
The original room had a sunflower-yellow, gateleg, bedside table. See it there on the left side of the photo below?
I gave it a coat of primer, then painted it green and it now continues its job as a nightstand. But I do believe it’s much prettier now.
As a tribute to the former “Sunflower Themed” room I added a vase of fresh sunflowers.
I also acquired this rose embroidery with the house. It had been framed in drab dark brown.
It too got a fresh coat of green paint and now hangs over the nightstand.
And I painted the carved wooden frame that housed a pretty original oil painting of red roses.
A blush pink sweater weave area rug found here at World Market was the perfect addition to this feminine, cosy enclave of a room.
