THE HOUSE ON VICTORIA COURT GUEST ROOM RENOVATION
Hi Guys! OK, today I’m dedicating another post to my latest fixer-upper. I’m sharing the House On Victoria Court Guest Room Renovation. Here’s what the bedroom looked like when we purchased the home.
As you can see, the walls were constructed of knotty pine paneling. The window coverings were the dreaded tab-top, off-the-shelf type. The wooden bed frame was painted in a desert Mexican motif, and the bedspread was once again the red cowboy print I showed you previously in the kitchen. There was a piece of linoleum placed like an area rug over old hardwood floors, on top of which were some ancient bathroom rugs. What were they thinking?
At the foot of the bed was a chest of draws painted to match the bed. The only thing I liked in the room was the vintage mirror which was hung in an odd location. Everything else HAD TO GO!
In what became the Bunk Room there had been a couple of old doors and a metal bed frame stored against the wall. I noticed that the bed frame appeared to be for a Double Bed, the same size as the wooden bed currently in the Guest Room. I preferred the metal bed, thinking it to be more true to the era and style of my 1930’s cottage.
So, we gave the metal bed frame a good sanding, and with a couple of cans of white enamel spray paint we transformed it.
Big improvement, don’t you think?
We then refinished the hardwood floors and covered them to protect them while we painted the knotty pine in a warm colored, Behr Premium Plus Ultra Paint called Lavish Gold. I’d better describe the color as Caramel. The windows were painted white, and we left the paneled and beamed ceiling as it was.
We also painted the old wooden chest of drawers white, and painted the knobs in the caramel wall color.
I didn’t care for the original ceiling light fixture so I replaced it with a pretty, vintage brass fixture I found at Bella’s.
In the BEFORE Living Room there was a vintage iron floor lamp that I liked. In fact, I have used similar floor lamps often. Because the Guest Room was so small, there was not room for me to add night stands. But there was room for a floor lamp and the room needed more light. So, I decided to use this floor lamp in the the Guest Room. However, the red lampshade would have to go.
But instead of tossing out a perfectly good lampshade I decided to transform it into one that would compliment my new decor. I did that by covering it with fabric that I later used to sew the duvet cover. Stay tuned and in a future post I’ll give you a DIY Lampshade Recovering Tutorial.
So, here is the new floor lamp next to the bed.
The same fabric that I used to cover the lampshade I also used to sew a custom duvet cover and accent pillows. I lined the Duvet with a beautiful caramel colored linen fabric, the same linen I used to sew the draperies. As usual, I picked up the fabric at Dorell Fabric Outlet.
I purchased the Mohair Tassel Lumber Pillows here at Pottery Barn for $39.50. They are plush and luxurious.
And they are available in 2 other colors as well.
Here’s the completed Guest Room, ready and waiting for visitors.
