HOW TO MAKE A BEAUTIFUL CUSTOM EASTER BASKET

Happy Holy Week & Happy Spring! In anticipation of Easter (which I can’t believe is this coming Sunday) I thought I’d show you how to make a beautiful custom Easter basket. I’ve included clickable links to everything you’ll need to make your own custom Easter basket.

When I was a young girl my mom, like most parents at the time, simply picked up pre-made Easter baskets at the grocery store and called it good. I didn’t know any better until one Easter my parents were out of town and I went to stay with my girlfriend for Easter. Her mom made us girls the most magnificent custom Easter baskets. They were filled with paper dolls, and lip gloss and nail polish, and all kinds of girly things that I simply loved. It was at that moment that I realized there could be more to a Easter basket than those horrible things they sell in the grocery store. So, my kids have always gotten the most beautiful, custom Easter baskets I could possibly make.

This year I picked up these terrific wired baskets at World Market that came complete with excelsior and a clear cellophane basket bag. They are on sale right now for only $7.49.

In order for the basket contents to be visible, they need to be propped up in the basket. I accomplish this by creating a filler. I simply cover either bubble wrap or those air filled bags with tissue paper.

That becomes my basket filler…

and the excelsior simply goes on top.

This time of year Costco has 50 yard rolls of wired ribbon in Spring colors for only $7.99 which I load up on.

I use clear cellophane bags to hold Easter candy and make cute little bags of Candy Corn, Chocolate Easter Eggs & Spring colored Jordan Almonds.

I wrap up little gifts in Spring colored wrapping paper, also from Costco, and add IKEA curling ribbon.

Clear packing tape and wooden skewers help prop up items like Marshmallow Peeps.

Then I start layering in the contents, all the while discretely taping them in place.

The giant golden Easter Eggs and sweet little chocolate chicks came from World Market here. And here’s a link to the cute bunny and chick cookie cutters. My son’s girlfriend loves to bake so I hope she’ll put these to good use.

Then I carefully place the filled basket into the cellophane basket bag, pulling it all the way up and over the contents of the basket.

Next I make a big, beautiful bow for the top. Want to know how I make them? Click here for my bow tutorial.

This first basket is for my son Taylor. I happened to find this metal “T” at Target which I used to identify that this basket is for him. It’s actually a cute refrigerator magnet and I found it in Target’s $1 section.

I also had fun making baskets for my Grandkids, using green wire baskets for them.

I got lots of fun girly stuff for my Granddaughter. Magnetic paper dolls, Easter stickers and crafting eggs, a cozy critters coloring book and colored pencils, a little pink purse and some Easter socks.

I started by layering the tallest items in the back of the basket.

Then I filled in with smaller items in front, including the set of White House Easter Eggs that I told you about in my last post.
