SUNDAYS WITH CELIA VOL 38

Greetings and welcome to Sundays With Celia Vol 38. I hope you are enjoying a relaxing summer weekend celebrating the fathers in your life. Here in Lake Arrowhead the skies are clear, the fresh mountain air is filled with the scent of the pine trees, the birds are chirping, and the low hum of speedboats on the lake can be heard faintly in the background, all things that remind me why I live in Lake Arrowhead. 

In fact, it’s so nice that we have visitors of all kinds here in Lake Arrowhead. I snapped this photo of a flock of ducks enjoying a sandy shoreline.

Looking Back On Sunday

I’ve had a very busy week, so busy that I didn’t publish a single blog post last week. That’s because I was in Chicago helping my son Taylor and his girlfriend move into a new apartment.

You may recall that back in May I told you (in this post) that she was coming to Chicago to do her medical residency. He is in the city attending The University of Chicago Law School. Between her insane hours practicing medicine and his insane hours interning for a federal judge and writing an 80 hour application to get on The Law Review, they had zero time to get settled into their new apartment. Therefore, her father drove her belongings in a UHaul truck from Philadelphia and I flew in from California, and together we got them moved in. I came home exhausted, with every part of my body in pain from all the heavy lifting. However, the results of our efforts paid off, as in a matter of days we went from this disaster…

to this…

For two 25-year-old millennials they can now be very proud of the apartment where they will be able to retreat after very long days of very hard work. I plan to show you more of their first grown-up living space in an upcoming blog post real soon. We managed to pull off a very nice space using furnishing that date back to their freshmen year in undergraduate school, and the contents of their various living spaces over the last 6 years. Throw in a few trips to IKEA, CB2, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, World Market and Bed, Bath & Beyond, and they have a great space at a relatively low cost.

Checking Out Obama’s Chicago Residence

The University of Chicago Graduate Housing unit that my son has just moved out of is located on a street called Greenwood Ave. When I helped my son move into his apartment last summer we noticed that at the end of his street was a barricade with security that looked like the Secret Service.

Well, my son finally learned that the barricade and security was there protecting President Obama’s Chicago residence. Since Obama left office the barricades are still there but the security detail is gone. So just for the fun of it we drove down the street to take a peek and I took a quick photo through the car window of his home. Now my son can say he once lived on the same street as a sitting President. Pretty cool (despite politics).

Palmetto Bluff On Sunday

Last week my DC dwelling son and his family made their annual trip to Palmetto Bluff. Each year around this time my son and his business partner rent a large PB home and take their respective families for a week of business meetings for the dads and fun for the families. This year the house they rented was their most favorite and I can see why. In fact, he said they loved it so much they’d like us to return to the same rental house with them later this summer. We shall see…
